When You Turned and Smiled at Me

Summary:

You’re a scamp, a scoundrel,
you break all the rules.
But beneath your sly grin
you’re soft as lambs-wool.

Aziraphale writes a poem for Crowley, as a wedding gift. In the universe of on1occasionFork's beloved nursing-home AU,
Our Homeward Steps Were Just as Light.

Notes:

Happy birthday, Fork! Thank you for writing such a beautiful story and trilogy about finding love in life's later seasons.

Thank you to my wonderful betas 6000years and FirstVisittoEarth!

Work Text:

I wound down for winter,
a season of rest.
But then I met you, dear,
full of vim and zest.

You’re a scamp, a scoundrel,
you break all the rules.
But beneath your sly grin
you’re soft as lambs-wool.

Long elegant fingers
cascade, leap, and dance
across keys, while I sing
you songs of romance.

My life was but prologue,
like fate somehow knew
I studied poems so I
could read them to you.

A taste of lemon cake,
a glimpse of eyes gold.
I savor each chapter,
feast as it unfolds.

Clocks now tick more loudly,
bells bittersweet chime.
Each moment together
is a lavish lifetime.

With you, I've discovered
that in ancient hearts
live whole universes
still birthing young stars.

You’re my bright miracle,
you’re my bonus spring.
Let’s soar high, like music,
on gossamer wings.

Wherever you journey,
you’ll find me there too.
You’re the home for my soul,
you’re my heartbeat true.
