Chapter Text
July 8th, 1983
Hello. My name is Juniper Thorton. I am eleven years old and live in 1223 Westbrook Lane, Hawkins, Indiana. Hawkins is a town you've probably never even heard of. It's the same as any other town like it - small, peaceful, boring. That's what everyone I know says. "Hawkins is such a nice, quiet place to live. It's so safe and everyone's so nice!"
My sister, Priscilla Thorton, calls it "small town America."
I call it misleading.
I know people believe that Hawkins isn't like that. It's a place where the most exciting thing that's happened is when Swallow Lane got a new streetlight. But that can't be true, because every town has a graveyard.
That's why I'm writing this scientific journal. Through my expansive network of spies and informants, plus my own personal observations, I will compile a complete, documented timeline of the oddities and secrets hiding within my town. I don't quite know what I'm expecting to come out of this. These observations, however unusual when compared with this town's charming facade, will probably remain somewhat dull. Maybe I'll find an odd pattern that leads to something bigger. Maybe I'll look back through these in ten years and find fond memories within the pages. Maybe I'm doing this all for naught.
Whatever reason, whatever outcome I find, I will be recording it. Hawkins isn't picturesque small town America. It's hiding secrets. Ones I intend to uncover.
No observations for today. I'm still setting up the network. It should be operational in a few days.
