Day 1 of Dorms (Doomsday Oneshots)

Summary:

Hoshi was startled by the girl she was observing suddenly strolling over to her, an unreadable expression on her face. Her eyes seemed narrowed in on her, quite unnerving.

“Hey! I’m Riki, what about you?” Her, or Riki's, hand was held out in a gesture to shake.

Hoshi stood silently, not knowing what to say. She didn’t reciprocate the hand shake, opting to take a hesitant step back, hoping Riki would take that as a “don’t talk to me”. Unsurprisingly, she didn’t.

“What’s your quirk?” Her head tilted, kinda like a bird would. Again, Hoshi didn’t respond. “You’re a little short, how old are you?”

Aizawa glanced over, also confused by that question. Hoshi stuttered, slightly offended at that comment.

Work Text:

The Ua dorms were a lot bigger than Hoshi had expected. She felt the same about the main building. Everything seemed excessively large on campus and she didn’t understand why. It felt silly to ask.

Hoshi had watched silently from the side as other students talked and watched the room, moving boxes around. She didn’t have much to unpack so all she could really do for the rest of the evening was observe her classmates. Hoshi tried to mask any facial expressions as she analyzed them. One in particular stood out to her. Some girl stood on the other side of the common area near the kitchen. She was freakishly tall, if the dorm's ceilings were a normal height, she’d have to slouch just to fit. Her legs were covered in feathers. The feathers seemed like a telltale sign of a bird-related quirk but no wings were in sight.

As much as Hoshi tried to ignore her, that girl kept staring. It was beginning to irritate Hoshi. Normally, she’d be scared to see someone stare at her, but Mr. Aizawa stood not far from her. He gave her a sense of security despite how intimidating he was. Nevertheless, that girl kept glancing at Hoshi, looking her up and down, furrowing her eyebrows every now and then.

“What’s your quirk?” Her head tilted, kinda like a bird would. Again, Hoshi didn’t respond. “You’re a little short, how old are you?”

Aizawa glanced over, also confused by that question. Hoshi stuttered, slightly offended at that comment.

“Rikkkkkiii!” A loud, quite taunting, voice seemed to call for the girl.

A hand, fully black by the way like a black hole would be, rested on her shoulder. The person forcibly moved her backwards, away from Hoshi.

“C’mon, stop overbearing the poor girl! She looks like she’s about to faint! How about you go continue putting your suitcases away before I send ‘em through a little blackhole, alright?” Their tone was daunting and they seemed to glance at Aizawa, a slight plea in their eyes. Hoshi couldn’t make out what it was exactly for, though.

Riki let out the most irritated sigh Hoshi had ever heard and turned away, sulking back to the common area. Hoshi was still a bit flustered, avoiding eye contact with the man in front of her. She could feel him staring at her. His gaze felt judgemental and scrutinizing.

“Damn, that girl never shuts her mouth.” He seemed to almost insult Riki, though there was an undertone in his voice that proved that idea false. “Sorry about her or whatever, she’s quite…unruly without her twin around.”

“Kanashii, by the way! I don’t think we’ve met.” Hoshi smiled politely, not knowing what to make out of this situation. The boys and girls were separated in different halls, so he shouldn’t have been here. She glanced back at Mr. Aizawa who was now busy helping another girl move something. He was the one who had enforced that rule, so why wasn’t he telling Kanashii to leave?

“.. Hoshi Natsumi…” She muttered almost too quietly to be heard. “Are you.. supposed to be here?” Hoshi instantly regretted saying that. She sounded so rude and insulting. Her mind filled with hypotheticals, anxiously waiting for his response.

Kanashii just stared at her for what felt like hours, even if not even a minute. A grin suddenly spread on his face.

“Oohhh yeah, that!” He tilted his head to each side, like he was making sure no one was watching. “The teachers kinda..don’t know where to put me as, well, I may look it but I am in fact not a man! I think.”

Hoshi didn’t know what to say. So he was intersex. “Oh…” She tried to speak but nothing came out. The awkward silence was palpable. She tried to not look uncomfortable, but honestly, she was. Not by him, but because of the conversation. Hoshi wanted to hide away in her dorm and never see Kanashii again, or any of her classmates for that matter.

“KANASHII PLEASE COME HELP ME MOVE MY SUITCASES!” A yell that made the person in front of her flinch.

“COMING! Gotta go, it was lovely speaking to you! If you have problems with Riki, bother Takeru, not me!” Kanashii ran off as quickly as they spoke, which was fast.

Hoshi slipped back into her dorm room and closed the door silently. She could hear someone in the dorm next to her talking to themselves and it bothered Hoshi. The dorms were so overwhelming and crowded.

——

Kanashii watched as Tomoko adjusted his mask, pointing to a large box. “I need you to move that into my room please.”

He turned to face the..comically large box, expression twisting up in confusion. “That big box..” A sigh left his lips while he nodded. Tomoko so owed him later.

Flicking his wrist in a circular motion and focusing his mind on the area right under the box, he watched as a black hole formed under it as soon as he finished gesturing four diamond-like shapes in the air. The box quickly dropped through, the black hole closing as soon as it was out of sight.

Kanashii flicked a bit of sweat from over his eyebrow and walked over to the dorm room of the other. Copying the symbol he did previously and eyes forcing themselves to focus on the ceiling, the same black hole opened. The box, loudly by the way, slamming into the ground. Relatively gently.

He winced at the loud noise it made, walking back out of the dorm room and booking it slowly to Tomoko. “The hell was that??” Tomoko sounded exasperated as he approached his room, Kanashii following. He raised his eyebrows slightly as he saw the damaged box sitting in the center of the room.

“It’s not broken I swear.” Kanashii mumbled in a sort of tired tone. His arms crossed as he used the doorway as a bit of a support. Tomoko nodded slowly and hesitantly patted him on the shoulder as a thank you.

He shrugged and turned right back around, booking it to his own dorm room. Straight to his bed, he was asleep as soon as he hit the sheets.
