Work Text:
Jack had been scrolling on his phone when he stumbled upon videos of people asking their loved ones if they'd still love them if they were worms. He knew most of them were to romantic partners, but he'd also seen plenty of kids confusing their parents with the question.
Which is how Jack ended up leaning against the counter eating fruit, "Dad?"
Sam glanced up from his cooking station. "Yes, Jack?"
"Would you still love me even if I was a worm?" Jack asked, and Sam chuckled. He could see the gears in his Dad's head turning.
"Yes, I would. I'd love you in any shape or form. I'd gladly protect you with my life."
Jack nodded with a smile, "Good to know."
Sam paused, "I do not advise you turning yourself into a worm though. A worm can't enjoy nougat."
Castiel was the next person Jack asked. Castiel was sorting books in the library and Jack decided to help. He decided now was the perfect opportunity to ask his Father, "Father? Would you still love me even if I was a worm?"
There was a pause in Castiel's work flow, "Are you planning to turn into a worm?" He asked, and Jack chuckled.
"No. But if I was one, would you love me?" Jack asked.
Castiel set down the stack of books, "Even if you were a fish, I'd love you." That warmed Jack's heart knowing Castiel's interesting feud with fish. "But if you were a worm you'd have five hearts and no teeth."
Jack's eyes widened, "Oh." Is all he could say.
Castiel nodded. "I believe you'd also have to worry about the early bird."
Jack's last person to ask was Dean. "Uncle Dean, would you still love me even if I was a worm?"
"No. They're slimy and gross." Dean said, shuddering just thinking about them. Jack tilted his head, unsurprised.
"I was informed they have no teeth and five hearts." Jack said and Dean scrunched his face up.
Dean shook his head, "Stay human or humanish kid. It suits you a lot better than a worm." Which was the closest thing Jack was going to get to Dean saying he liked Jack as is. But Jack understood nonetheless.
"Would you love me if I was a worm?" Dean asked, throwing the question back.
Jack shook his head, "Probably not because I don't speak worm and never would've met you." Dean crossed his arms, "What about Sam and Cas? Would you love them?"
"Of course." Jack said, and Dean threw his hands up. Jack shrugged, "They both said they'd love me if I was a worm. Even if I was a fish."
"Cas?" Dean asked, and Jack nodded. "That's big. Guy hates fish. No worm turning for either of us then." Jack just smiled. No worm turning indeed.
