Work Text:
Falling in love with you was an experience Wiress had no precedent for. She preferred to keep to herself. People had always seen her as a little off-putting, and she was nervous at the thought of forming close connections with anyone anyway after what was done to her after her games. And until she met you, she really didn't have an interest in dating people anyway. It felt to her like a very artificial construct. However, she couldn't help the way her heart tugged every time she spoke with you. You matched her energy, stayed quiet and understanding, listened to her speak when no one else would. And, admittedly, she found everything about your physical appearance fascinating, although she tried not to be shallow. Still, she didn't yet have the courage to make any move and risk something terrible happening to you. After months of a budding friendship, however, you confessed to her. And while she wasn't willing to be the first to risk your safety, she also had far too much of an attachment to you already to deny following the path her heart drew her to. And contrary to what she'd often anticipated, being yours felt natural. It may not be a relationship everyone would understand, but for her, it felt perfect. Although, unsurprisingly, she isn't one to be forward about her feelings for you in public, the two of you quickly become anchors for each other. It isn't a matter of dependence--you are both perfectly capable of sustaining yourselves--but you draw a comfort from each other that you don't from others. When no one else is around to see you, she loves spending time with you however possible. If you have a hobby that permits you to work on projects as she works on an invention, all the better.
Wiress loves cats, and after becoming a Victor, she feeds strays around her Victor’s village. So if the two of you happen to move in together, you should anticipate the adoption of as many as she can coax into your residence. She charms them wonderfully, though, so before long, they're as friendly as any housecat. Your bed will be occupied by at least one at all times.
She adores black or herbal tea, especially on sleepless nights. If you happen to also like tea, she'll brew an extra cup for you every time before you even have the chance to ask.
Wiress has frequent headaches as a result of the torture, and for this reason, she prefers dimmer lighting in her house. During flare-ups, she's unlikely to speak much and prefers the quiet, confined to bed in the worst instances; it means the world to her when you still lay beside her and so carefully keep her company in these moments.
Sewing is a bit of a necessity in the districts where materials are scarce and frugality is important, so it’s no wonder she has experience with it, but it’s also something she finds peace in. Something about the patchwork look of repaired clothes is a comfort to her, and even after becoming a Victor, she’d rather repair them than buy anything new. When your birthday comes around, you can expect at least one handsewn project she's made for you every year. If you need a new pair of gloves, a scarf, or a shirt, she'll have one ready in your favorite color.
On the rare occasions when District 3's light pollution doesn't entirely dim the sky, you head to the rooftop to stargaze. Though the names of constellations are long lost to the societies before you that crumbled, the two of you spend your time outlining them and giving them your own names.
Should you happen to enjoy reading, she'd always love to discuss anything you'll read with you--and if she hasn't read a favorite of yours herself yet, she's more than happy to devour it in a few hours so as to provide her opinions. (If she thinks something is poorly written, even if it's your favorite, she will, delicately, tell you every detail as to why.)
Touch usually makes her nervous. With you, though, there's no feeling more calming than your hand in yours, or leaning on each other's shoulders as one of you drifts off to sleep. Being close to you helps to soothe her. Nothing can ever erase the memories of her time in the arena or what occurred afterwards, but being around you makes it bearable in a way she otherwise couldn't dream of.
