Work Text:
It was such a draining day, going to classes and having to study for hours on end with deafening silence. Though maybe he should've enjoyed it while it lasted, as he suddenly heard his father shout, not unusual, but he stayed alarmed. He froze when his mother shouted back, that was odd cause she was typically calm..like really calm. So it surprised him when he heard her defend herself, he sat at his desk for a moment before getting up and leaving your room. He walked over to his parents' room, and since the door was open, he could hear everything quite clearly. He stayed just out of sight but directly next to the door as he listened in, his parents arguing wasn't anything new. They've been arguing since he was born, and to be honest, he always assumed it was his fault they argued. Even though he didn't ask to be born. He listened in for a few more minutes before deciding to head back to his room. Halfway there, he froze. He heard his father shout something he could never forget, ever.
"Well, perhaps we shouldn't have had him!"
Maybe they were talking about someone else? But he's an only child and they're petless.
They couldn't have been talking about him.
No way.

Inside his room, he laid on his bed silently. He wasn't typically affected by their arguments, they were stupid in his opinion. But those last few words that he heard, he felt like he'd been lying on his bed for a second, but when he looked at his clock, it went from 8:42pm to 9:31pm. He sighed, sitting up and grabbing his phone. He flipped it open but paused as his thumb twitched above the buttons. It wasn't his fault, he couldn't have asked to be born. It wasn't his fault. It couldn't have been. He felt his eyes slightly water up, it was almost a new feeling. He hadn't cried since like second grade, what was there to cry about? He went to contacts and called Maxxie, instantly regretting it as the phone rang.
"Hello? You need something?" Maxxie asked, and he held the phone up to his ear with slightly shaky hands. "Max, can I please come over?" He asked, his voice softer than usual. Maxxie paused to think for a moment before replying. "Yeah. Shouldn't be an issue-" Maxxie got cut off quickly. "Thank you, I'll be over in ten." He replied and hung up, his gaze remaining on the wall for a moment before he removed his phone from his ear. He decided he didn't wanna bother his parents and tell them he's leaving, I mean they're arguing for Pete's sake. He stood up and left his room. He had his phone and some cash. What more could he need? He slipped out the front door quietly and began walking towards Maxxie's house.

Once at Maxxie's house, though, it was more of an apartment. He froze at the front door. What was he doing there? He should just go home and suck it up. He was being a crybaby over what? His father casually said they shouldn't have had him. Sigh. He knocked on the front door with slightly shaky hands due to the..cold, let's go with cold. After a few Maxxie's mother answered the door, he forced a friendly smile and explained he was there for Maxxie. Soon enough, Maxxie appeared at the door and invited him in. The two now sat on his bed awkwardly, despite his eyes nearly overflowing he found a way to make it awkward. "So..did you want to tell me what's wrong?" Maxxie asked, and he looked over at him with a concerned yet curious expression. "Well-" He cut himself off and went silent, how was he supposed to tell Maxxie anything when he was so awkward? He turned to Maxxie, looking down before meeting his gaze. "I'm just tired." He explained, though, that wasn't the whole truth. He exhaled deeply and quickly hugged Maxxie, letting his head rest on his shoulder as he closed his eyes and tears streamed down his cheeks. His face was red from embarrassment but also because he wasn't such a physical person, and the crying became a bit more obvious as his shoulders slightly bounced and he became less quiet. He could hear Maxxie comforting him but the hug was doing more than enough. His fingers curled against Maxxie's back as he sobbed, his head slipped down Maxxie's shoulder and landed on his collarbone. Leaving his shoulder slightly damp. He continued to sob heavily onto Maxxie's shoulder, his head not moving away for half a second. He wasn't much of a vulnerable person, I mean he didn't even know the last time he let someone see him even get emotional, so for him to sob on Maxxie's shoulder must've been a surprise. He rested his head there for a moment, allowing him to regain his composure. That took a huge load off of him, he lifted his head and backed his head back to straighten his posture. He wiped his waterline and cleared his throat. "Cheers mate." He said, Maxxie patted his shoulder but paused. "'Cheers mate'? You just broke down on my shoulder??" Maxxie said, his pats coming to a stop as he rested his hand on his shoulder now. He glanced over at Maxxie, his gaze dipping before he made eye contact with him again. "So?" He asked, his eyes were a little puffy but besides that he had completely went back to normal. "So are you alright? You just came into my room to bawl and leave?" Maxxie asked, He shifted his gaze. That wasn't true, but his ego had to recover. "I'm as fine as a flea, and..well yeah. Basically." He shrugged, nudging Maxxing with his elbow. "Right well, if you're so sure." Maxxie said, flashing a smile as he got nudged. Maxxie lowered his hand from his shoulder and paused when he leaned in. "How did my flipper get behind you?" He asked playfully as he leaned in and grabbed his flip-phone from behind Maxxie. "Right..oh. I'm unsure." Maxxie mumbled, he lingered a second. Their faces nearly touching as he heard the bedroom door opening, he quickly leaned back again as Maxxie's mother entered the room. "My apologies for interrupting, but dear I do need to know if you are stayed the night as it is getting quite late." Maxxie's mother said, he shook his head and stood up. "No..no, I'm leaving now." He said, Maxxie's mom nodded understandingly and went off to get ready for bed. Infront of the front door Maxxie and him stood, he put his phone away in his back pocket and stuffed his hands in his front pockets awkwardly. "Well..goodnight." He mumbled. "Goodnight." Maxxie replied, taking a small step back. "And er..don't mention this to anybody?" He asked, Maxxie's smile returned and he nodded. Maxxie entered the house and shut the door as he walked off into the cold night.
