Chapter Text

It was a sleepy morning, and the pair of them were yawning over their cereal. They’d had a rather late night, and Jesus was glad that they both had no plans for the day and that school wasn’t in session.

“I know it’s only a couple of days away, but I was wondering if you’d like to come to a New Year’s celebration with me?” Judas asked quietly.

Jesus looked up in surprise. Judas didn’t really go out very often, nor was he fond of crowds.

“It’s just a handful of us from the orchestra. Veronica and Elizabeth are hosting. I don’t think there’ll be more than twenty people,” he elaborated. “Partners are welcome.”

Jesus felt his heart leap. “Partners?”

Judas blushed. “I mean, given we’ve been seeing each other for a few months now, and I think we’ve been spending more time at each other’s place than our own, and I also really like you… I think it’s the next logical step?”

A large grin spread across Jesus’ face. “So you’re saying we’re boyfriends?”

“That does make us sound like a couple of teenagers… but yes, I’d like us to be,” Judas said bashfully.

“I’d love that,” Jesus said, his grin becoming even goofier. “I’d also love to see my boyfriend’s clothes strewn across my bedroom floor again, while I shower him with all the love he deserves.”

Judas laughed, then met Jesus’ eyes.

“Oh. You’re serious.”

“I am,” Jesus said, and he could see his twinkling eyes reflected in Judas’ own surprised ones.

“Well, that sounds like fun.”

———

Judas’ already impossibly curly hair was somehow even messier as Jesus slowly placed kisses along his torso.

The sheets were rumpled, their clothing unceremoniously dropped upon the floor, and their bodies were glinting with a light sheen of sweat.

Judas sighed softly. “That was good. You’re good.”

“Says the most gorgeous man to exist,” hummed Jesus, planting one final kiss upon Judas’ lips before flopping down next to him.

“I didn’t actually get an answer from you about that party, by the way,” Judas said, rolling onto his side.

“If you want to go, I’ll gladly go with you. I’d like to properly meet your friends.”

“I must warn you, it’s themed, though,” Judas said.

Jesus laughed. “I’m a school teacher, themed events are my favourites!”

“Even if the theme is ‘glitter and rainbows’?” Judas asked incredulously.

Jesus’ smile only grew. “Especially then.”

———

“How do I look?” Judas asked.

Jesus turned around, his jaw dropping. Judas was in a pair of shiny black tight-fitting trousers, a sequinned blue tank top, and a glittery silver jacket, with matching silver boots.

“You look so good,” Jesus breathed.

A blush spread across Judas’ face. “Is my makeup okay, too?” he asked, eyes closing, allowing Jesus to see it properly.

There was a glittery rainbow gradient across each eyelid, with sparkly silver eyeliner running above his lashes.

“How did you do that?” Jesus whispered. “It’s beautiful.”

“Doing theatre means I know the basics of makeup, and I used to paint, which helps,” Judas said quietly. “And thank you, you’re very sweet.”

“Of course. I mean it. You’re stunning.”

Judas blushed even more. “Are you going to get ready, by the way?”

“Oh, I probably should, yes,” Jesus replied, and hurried to change.

The faded blue jeans, white sequined top, and rainbow-patterned cardigan weren’t as flashy as Judas’ outfit, but they were at least on theme, still. He shoved his feet into a pair of white sneakers, and pulled his hair back with a glittery rainbow scrunchie he’d borrowed from Mary.

He frowned at the last piece of his look, another item on loan from Mary. “Judas, can I get your help, please?”

A few seconds later, Judas entered. “Oh, you look so cozy,” he smiled. “Like if a pride parade met a primary school teacher.”

“Funny that,” Jesus remarked.

Judas laughed. “What did you need?”

“I don’t know how to put on this makeup,” Jesus admitted, holding out the sparkly gold eyeshadow.

“Here,” Judas said, taking the item and opening the case. “Close your eyes.”

Jesus obeyed, and he felt Judas’ finger flutter across his skin, dabbing the pigment onto his eyelids.

“Done. What do you think?”

He opened his eyes, and looked into the mirror. It wasn’t over-the-top, but the gold made the blue of his eyes pop, and the glitter caught the light.

“I… it looks good.”

Judas grinned. “You do look good. I have half a mind to ditch the party.”

“But everyone needs to see how hot you are, Jude. Then we can have some fun.”

“You really think I’m hot?” Judas asked disbelievingly.

“Judas, you are every single synonym for beautiful that there is,” Jesus said firmly. “Both inside and out.”

Judas smiled shyly, and pressed a kiss to Jesus’ cheek.

“Thank you, but we should probably go if we want to be on time,” Judas sighed.

Jesus grinned. “Once we’re home, I can think of at least ten things I want to do with you.”

“And over half of them involve sex, don’t they?” Judas chuckled.

“Maybe,” Jesus said. “That’s for you to find out next year.”

Judas rolled his eyes. “Let’s go.”

———

“Judas! Jesus!” Liza called excitedly as she threw open the door.

“Hi Liza,” Jesus smiled.

Judas blinked. “You know each other? Like, actually?”

“I taught her nephew last year, and we’ve bumped into each other a few times,” Jesus said.

“Also, he is in the front couple of rows at most concerts, and you’ve mentioned him enough for us to recognise each other,” chimed in a figure clad in a rainbow onesie.

“Hello, Veronica,” Judas laughed.

“I love the outfit,” Jesus said.

“Thanks!” she said. “You look just as comfy!”

“Anyway, grab a drink, mingle!” Liza beamed. “We do only have one bathroom though, so we’d prefer it if you didn’t hook up in there.”

As Liza and Veronica wandered away, Jesus leant in and whispered in Judas’ ear. “There goes my plans, then.”

Judas turned beet red. “We are not doing that,” he spluttered as he picked up two plastic flutes of champagne.

“Once we’re back at your place, then?” Jesus hummed, accepting the drink Judas held out.

“Maybe,” Judas smiled. “Even though there’s going to be plenty of glitter on the floor?”

“I teach children, Judas. Glitter is everywhere.”

Judas chuckled. “Anyway, I should probably introduce you to my friends before everyone is too drunk to remember.”

“That may be beneficial,” Jesus laughed, taking Judas’ hand.

———

Mary: Hope the party is going well! I’m having an early night, so preemptively wishing you a happy new year!

Jesus: Thanks Maryyyyyyy!!! Love youuuuuuuu!!!

Mary: For your sake, I hope Judas is more sober than you.

———

“Judas, it’s almost midnight!” Jesus called.

“Does that mean I can kiss you yet?” Judas hummed as he leant in.

“In about seven minutes, yes,” Jesus smiled, rolling his eyes.

“You know what else we could do in seven minutes?” Judas asked in a loud whisper.

Jesus threw his head back in laughter. “And I think that’s enough champagne for you,” he said, taking the half-full drink from Judas’ hand.

“But that’s mine,” Judas pouted as Jesus downed the bubbly liquid. “That’s only my fourth glass.”

“Only your fourth?”

Judas looked away sheepishly. “Well, I may have had several tequila shots with Veronica and Liza while you were talking with Matt and James,” he admitted.

“Oh, so we’re nearly equal then.” Jesus said. “Because I had several vodka shots with Veronica and Liza while you were talking with… um… the other guy with curly hair?”

“Peter?”

Jesus snapped his fingers. “Yes, Peter!”

“Yeah?” the aforementioned man asked.

Judas laughed. “Nothing, Pete! Go find your wife! It’s almost time to kiss her.”

Peter shrugged. “Okay.”

“Your friends are nice,” Jesus said, taking Judas’ hand in his. “I’m glad you felt comfortable enough to introduce me to them.”

“I want to tell everyone,” Judas whispered. “About us. I want the world to know how insanely lucky I am.”

Jesus’ heart fluttered. “What, on social media, too?”

Judas nodded. “I know you don’t really use it, but if you don’t want me to, that’s alright.”

“It’s okay, my students are too young for social media,” Jesus chuckled. “If you want to announce it, you can. That’s fine by me. Only if you’re sure, though.”

“I have never been more certain of anything,” Judas said firmly. “I have never been happier than when I’m with you. You’re kind, and funny, and you support me with everything that you’ve got— God, for fuck’s sake, you bought a season pass just to see me play, and you didn’t even know me then!”

Jesus chuckled, looking down at their entwined hands.

“I…” he began, but the people around them started to shout.

“Ten! Nine! Eight! Seven! Six! Five! Four! Three! Two! One!”

Judas met his eyes.

“Happy new year, Jesus,” he said, and brought their faces together.

Jesus smiled into the kiss.

He just knew it was going to be a very happy year.
