Work Text:
Nick had been at Harry’s New Year’s Eve party for what he had deemed to be way too long. Why Harry had insisted that everyone arrive at 2pm he would never know, but almost 10 hours later and Nick was ready to drink so much he wouldn’t remember seeing the new year in. However, as he looked across the room to Charlie who was laughing with Tao, Elle and Isaac, he knew he wanted to remember everything about the night.
He grabbed his coke and started to head back towards Charlie when he heard the countdown, 30 seconds to go and he was across the room from his New Year’s kiss. He broke into a sprint, trying to weave through bodies, or more accurately crash through them, before he was leaping over tables and ducking under the arms of people dancing.
He could see Charlie getting closer. As the countdown hit 2 seconds to go, he could hear his heart pounding and, as everyone shouted Happy New Year, he managed to lock lips with Charlie almost, but not quite, tackling him to the ground in the process.
He pulled away from the kiss and he looked at himself, covered in coke from where he thought he could keep it in the cup, his trousers scuffed where he’d slid across the floor and his breathing heavy from sprinting. Even rugby didn’t exert him that much.
“You know we could’ve met in the middle of the room right?” Charlie asked, giggling.
“Where’s the fun in that? Happy New Year Char.”
“Happy New Year Nick.”
