Chapter Text
I left the keys on the cabinet next to the door. “Guess what, mom?” I called out to my mother from the entrance while walking towards her.
She didn’t bother to look up from the magazine she was reading. “What?”
I stopped beside her while holding the paper bag with the groceries in my arms. “While I was out shopping, I saw that someone checking the house next door. They seem to have money.” I said, then went to the kitchen, leaving the groceries on the kitchen counter and taking things out of the bag to place them there.
“That’s nice.” Mom said, leaving her magazine on the coffee table and looking up, leaning back on the couch. “Make me a sandwich, would you?”
"Uh, y-yeah..." I nodded immediately, going to the fridge to take out the cold cuts to make Mom’s sandwich. “Alright.”
I took out the cold cuts along with the mayonnaise, went back to the kitchen counter, and left everything there to open the bread bag.
In a matter of minutes I finished making my mother’s sandwiches, (yeah, plural because she's not gonna be filled with just one sandwich) and went to bring it to her, cut in half into triangles, on a plate.
She took the plate from my hand and looked me in the eyes. “You should welcome the neighbors if they're gonna move.” She suggested with a soft smile on her lips.
I nodded excitedly, smiling. “Yeah, we could bring them a dessert.” I replied while heading toward the stairs to go up to my room and change into something more presentable.
Mom shook her head while taking a bite of her sandwich. “You go, I don’t feel like getting up today.” She said with her mouth full, chewing with her mouth open like a pig.
I nodded from halfway up the stairs and went up to the second floor. "You never feel like getting up."
