Work Text:
He should have brought an umbrella.
It was foolish of him to leave the house without it. Emlygil had even suggested so before he set off for the day. ‘Darling I’m only popping out to fetch the paper and pick up this month’s book for Bellara’s book club. I’ll be back before the skies darken!’
He was wrong.
He had initially tried to dart in and out of shop fronts in an attempt to stay as dry as possible, but it was hopeless. He resigned himself before tucking his new book into the pocket of his trousers and braving the April showers.
His long legs hopped over puddles as he made his way down Park Avenue as home felt a million miles away. He continued to trudge on, his eyes firmly on the ground to avoid deeper puddles when the feet of someone else came into view with a familiar giggle.
“Look at you, you look like a soggy giant schnauzer!”
He looked up to see his beloved wife standing before him, bone dry and holding a large umbrella.
“Emlygil, dearest-“
“I told you so.” She smirked and stepped closer to him so he was protected from the elements.
“You did.” He leaned over her, but she squealed and squirmed away.
“Not a chance, mister. Come on, let’s get you home and dry, and then you may kiss me. There may even be some Brynnlaw curled-leaf as well…”
“What a perfect day.” Emmrich hummed as they walked home together.
