Chapter 1: july 17th 2025

Chapter Text

Will looked up from his sketchbook. Jane was standing in front of him, smiling wildly and eyes bright. Will smiled, wondering why she was so happy. It must have been something with Dustin, maybe he gave her flowers?

"Will! There is a new movie, and it is called Superman. Argyle calls me Supergirl, are they brother and sister? Like us?" Jane said, her smile growing with every word. "If yes, we can be Superman and Supergirl! We are twins!"

Will laughed. Even though they weren’t biologically related in any way, they pretty much were twins. "Sure, do you want to go today? I’m sure Jonathan can drive us to the movies." Jane giggled.

"I will ask him right now! Come!" She grabbed Will’s hand and tried to pull him off the chair, even though she wasn’t strong enough. Will stood up, still holding Jane’s hand, and together they walked to Johnathan’s room.

Jane practically threw the door open, revealing Jonathan cleaning his camera. He jumped at the noise and turned to see who was at the door, ready to throw his green crayola pencil at whoever was at the door.

His face softened when he saw them. "Don’t scare me like that again! Knock next time, what if i didn’t have clothes on."

Jane scrunched her face and let out an "Ewww".

"Sorry Jonathan, we’ll try to knock next time." Will grimaced. "Anyways, we wanted to ask if you could drive us to the movies? Jane wanted to watch Superman and I kind of want to as well."

Jane was vibrating from excitement beside him. "I hope there is Supergirl in the movie! Argyle calls me Supergirl!"

Jonathan smiled. "Sure. I don’t have anything better to do. But first, look on the movie theatres’ website to see when the next screening is, we wouldn’t want to be too late or too early. Also, text Mom and Hopper to tell them we are leaving."

"Yes! Come Will! We must send a message to Joyce and Dad!" Jane jumped and dragged Will back to the dining room. She pulled her phone out and opened the camera app, angling it towards her and Will.

"Hi Joyce! Hi Dad! We are sending this video because Jonathan will drive us to watch Superman and Supergirl! He told us to tell you! Ok, goodbye! Have fun at Enzo’s!" Jane passed the phone to Will.

"Bye Mom, bye Hop. See you later." Will pressed the stop button. He sent the message and gave Jane her phone back. She watched the video and smiled. Then, her phone rang.

"Ok, have fun. See you later kiddos. xo, Mom and Dad" Jane read their message out loud. "Do I reply?"

Will shook his head. "No, just send a heart emoji." Jane nodded.

"Purple heart or yellow heart?" Jane asked. She insisted on sending emojis with their favourite colors. Will never understood why, but he thought it was fun.

"Send both, because we both sent the video."

Jane let out a small "Okay!" and sent the hearts.  Will took out his phone to google the theatres next screening. It was at 8:15pm, and it was 7:36. They had time, so Will took a screenshot of it and sent it to Jonathan.

Jonathan sent back a thumbs up emoji. Will rolled his eyes. "Jane, lets get ready. If you want to put glitter on your face that matches Supergirl’s costume, you might want to do that now."

Jane looked up from her phone. "Okay! Good idea!" She put her phone down and ran up the stairs.

Will sat down and continued to sketch.

"Will! Jane! If you want to leave, we leave now!" Jonathan called from his car. Will shut his sketchbook as Jane ran down the stairs, her shooting past him. She’s really fast, he thought.

When both teenagers were situated in the backseat of Jonathan’s car, they set of for the movie theatre. It was now 7:49, and they were going to be on time.

On their way to the movies, Jane rambled about some dream she had a while back. Something about her and Will having powers and defeating some monster called Vecna. She must have caught on to his dungeon and dragons campaigns. Will listened intently to her storytelling. She really was a great storyteller.

When they finally arrived to the movie theatre at 8:02, Jonathan dropped them off, gave them 40 bucks, told them to stay out of trouble and left. He must have gone to see Nancy or something.

Jane took Will’s hand and skipped towards the Superman poster, asking someone to take a picture of them together. Usually, Will didn’t like pictures taken of him, but he always enjoyed taking pictures with Jane.

Jane smiled broadly and posed, legs spread wide and putting a peace sign up with her hands, whilst Will stood still with his hands in his pockets and smiled shyly.

After the picture was taken, Jane ran towards the stranger and thanked them, handing them a starbust. The stranger looked at it weirdly, but accepted it anyways and pocketed it. Will walked over and thanked him too. As soon as the stranger left, they looked at the picture.

"We look… good!" Jane exclaimed.  She favorited the picture then put her phone in her purse.

Will nodded. "Send that to me, ill post it om instagram."

Jane’s eyes lit up. "Oh! I will post it too."

"Sounds great. Now, let’s got buy our tickets and snacks before we’re late." Will started walking towards the ticket counter, Jane at his side.

Once they got their food and were sitting in the theatre, it was 8:13. They were on time, and that soothed Will.

Jane was intently eating her large popcorn- which she insisted on buying- and taking a few sips of her Fruitopia drink. She watched the ads that were on the movie screen, laughing at the cineplex ad with the popcorn in the sandcastle. Will sat back and relaxed, letting himself breathe.

At the end of the movie, Jane’s eyes practically shined. She absolutely adored the movie, from what Will could tell.

Will enjoyed the movie too, and decided that once they were home, he would draw Jane as Supergirl as a gift.

Jane called Jonathan, telling him that the movie was finished and if he was able to pick them up and drive them home.

Twelve minutes later, Jonathan’s car lulled up in front of them. Jane and Will got in.

"So, how was the movie?" Jonathan asked.

Both Will and Jane started telling him about the movie, and he smiled.
