Ten seconds to confess, ten seconds to change everything.
It needs to be perfect.
These were the most important ten seconds of his life.

Akito spares a glance at his three best friends huddled up with their confetti poppers at the ready. They stand at the edge of the water, waiting for the fireworks.

Toya turns and waves him over with a smile, a bright one. One brighter than the moon hovering just above. Akito rushes over, standing closely by Toyas side, his eyes never leaving his partner.

Snow falls slowly, gracefully. Multiple snowflakes land on Toyas winter blue hair, shining like glitter as they melt.
"Toya," he whispers, just loud enough for the other to turn with a tilt of the head.

Akitos pinky hesitantly wraps around Toyas, his heart beginning to race.

Toya returns the hold with a gentle expression, making Akito forget the cold as his face heats up.

"Toya, I..." He hesitates for just a moment, a second wasted.

Toya shifts his hand, fully wrapping around Akitos, fingers locked together.
Akito looks up at him with a mix of curiosity and surprise.

"Akito," He smiles.

"Toya," Akito smiles back, no other words on his mind.
12:00:00
Cheers of joy fill the open air, quickly followed by tens of fireworks flying over the water, reflecting beautifully back up towards the sky.
Akito was sure it looked gorgeous. But none of that mattered. All he could do was gaze at Toyas silver eyes, drowning in them.

Toya leaned in, taking Akito by suprise as their lips meet.
For a moment, time stopped. Akito closed his eyes as he followed the rhythm he and Toyas hearts had created.
A rhythm just for them.

Toya pulled back, his expression soft and loving. All of it for Akito, because of Akito.

"Happy New Year, Akito."
A large firework goes off, dressing them in its light. Everything felt unreal, almost like a dream. One that they never wanted to wake up from.

"Happy New Year, Toya."
Akito pulled Toya into a hug, sharing their heat with each other. "I love you." He whispers at a volume only Toya could hear.
12:00:05
"I love you too." Toya replies, tightening his hold on his lover. He rests his head on Akitos shoulder, feeling the quiet nervous laughs that Akito finally let out.
With each second that passes, they remain together, not wanting to waste another on being apart.
He had ten seconds.
Sure, it didn't go exactly as he hoped. Hell, he used an extra five.
That doesn't matter anymore, though. All that mattered now was that they were together.
Now, and forever.
