What if... Draco didn't lie when they asked him if that was Harry Potter?
Everything changed after that because there was no Boy Who Lived to stop Voldemort, and they had all put everything behind Harry Potter, who was supposed to save their world. Draco lost so much that day, but he gained a lot, too. He was bitten and everyone knew that being a werewolf was almost a fate worse than death, that you would kill your closest friends on the full moon... but what if everyone was wrong about that and it wasn't true at all?
Years later, he and Hermione are in hiding and Voldemort still hunts them, but Hermione is brilliant, the most brilliant witch of her age, so she has hidden them well with her spells. Rumors abound that the Dark Lord's wand doesn't obey him and there are revolutionaries in hiding who think that is a sign they should fight, but Draco doesn't agree. He knows from personal experience that just when you think you've lost everything, the Dark Lord has a way of driving home just how much you still have to lose, and he knows exactly whose fault it is that the Elder Wand doesn't obey him.
