Work Text:
Mike smiled as his little sister started to read the rulebook to her friends. While his Party was sadly, inevitably, breaking up and going their separate ways, Holly would have several years to explore her imagination.
As the teen made his way towards the dinner table, the small of lasagna hitting his nose, Karen called out “Oh! Mike. I forgot, you got something in the mail today.” Mike threw his hands up “Why did you wait this long to tell me?” he asked, changing his trajectory to bring himself to the small pile of junk mail on the counter. Karen huffed “Well it was blank! So I kinda forgot.”
“Blank?” Mike muttered to himself as he picked his way through the pile of leaflets and coupons. There was a postcard near the bottom. He picked it up. It was addressed to him, and like Karen had said there was no message written on it. Just his name and address.
He stared at the originating address for a second…Iceland? He didn’t know anyone in Iceland. He flipped the postcard over and his heart dropped, his breath hitched and he stared. The photo on the front had three waterfalls. His hand trembled as he stared.
Dustin’s voice cut through his brain “Mike, the foods getting cold!” he said with a laugh. Mike shook his head and looked over “Yeah, I’ll be right there.” he said, flipping the postcard over again and staring intently at the return address. There was a couple of lower case “i”s, each had a meticulously drawn heart as a dot.
He set the postcard down and went to the dinner table, his heart hammering happily away.
