My school forced me to learn a language that doesn’t exist; I despised it at first, but in the end it brought me and my boyfriend’s hearts together

Summary:

Based off of a YouTube Reddit Story.
This work was made with the help of my beloved cousin and sister.

Once inseparable childhood friends, MC and Alex, find their bond fracturing over the arrival of Chapalish, a mysterious new language that Alex masters while MC can barely tolerate its sight. As the school curriculum drives a wedge between their perspectives, MC’s growing resentment and suspicion toward the language threatens to destroy the one connection he wants to hold onto forever. In a whirlwind of shifting symbols and unspoken feelings, the two must decide if their relationship can survive a future where they no longer speak the same tongue.

Chapter 1: Prologue—Prolonging

Chapter Text

“Hey, Alex!” MC giggled through a youthful smile, taking hold of her friend’s hand, not minding the Cheeto dust that had accumulated on her friend’s iPad fingers, hauling him through the forest that surrounded her backyard. With her free hand she pointed to a large tree, “Look ova’ there!”
Alex was slightly uninterested, but decided to listen to MC's ideas of turning the sapling into a massive tree house, equipped with a hangout room and lookout at the top of the tree.
He eventually nodded his agreement and the two kids began to construct a home—Fairy Princess Kitty Evil Slaughterhouse.
Over the days, which became weeks, then months, the house was ready.
There was a flimsy, yet workable, rope ladder that led up to the hangout, a wooden enclosure built off of tightly knit branches that had plywood drilled into them, as did the walls and the steps that ventured into the lookout.
“It’s so pretty!” MC breathed, looking over the countryside, flowers scattering the fields of trees and shrubs that layered the ground, a mix of purples, blues, and greens.
Alex acknowledged MC’s statement, though stood scarcely behind her, clutching a branch with trembling fingers. “Y-yup.” He gulped, “Can we get back to Animal Jam in the hangout?”
MC nodded her agreement and they headed down the steps to join eachother in the online video game.
“I hope that we have this treehouse for as long as we inhabit this planet!” Alex stated in a sophisticated tone of voice, making MC break out in laughter.
MC agreed through uncontrollable giggles, “Me too, Alex, me too...”
