Will really is hopeless. He felt his heart pound out of his chest, it felt like barbed wire was stuck in his throat. But he kept the smile on his face.
As a matter of the fact, he kept a smile on his face throughout every soft rejection he'd gone through. Throughout every kiss that was shared between Mike and El, through everything. Because that's what a good friend does.
A good friend doesn't wallow in shame, self pity, and misery just because his feelings aren't requited.
But then again, why would Mike stop Will up on the radio tower in the middle of a pretty damn important mission to have a conversation so buoyant and hopeful, just to end it in a friendship breakup? It made no sense.
Unless, Mike didn't want a friendship breakup.
OR
Mike and Will talk on the Squawk radio tower, and it ends in a way that Will would've never expected it to.
