Work Text:

Izuku doesn't usually stay up late, that's typically reserved for hero analysis or that one time he forgot about a ten page essay that was due the next day. However, tonight will definitely be worth it.

After coming back to the dorms following an exhausting day of rescue drills where All Might seemed determined to push them to their limits by drastically shortening the time they had to rescue each ‘civilian’. He felt as though he could fall asleep any second now with how much he's worked today.

Overall, Izuku found the exercise extremely useful as it helped him learn how to save people as fast as he could in dangerous scenarios, but he only managed to complete it with only a few seconds left on the clock, and that included him using One For All. He made a quick mental note that he should focus more on speed and agility in future training sessions.

All of 1A quickly and quietly dispersed into their own dorms in order to change into more comfortable clothes than their uniforms and also to decompress after a tiring day. For Izuku that meant lying on his bed watching his favourite interviews of All Might for around half an hour. After which, he decided he should rejoin the majority of his class in the lounge area below, where they had been playing video games or chatting among themselves.

When he reached the bottom step he smiled and waved at his friends who were chatting on the sofa. It seemed that everyone was nearby, apart from Mineta who is in time out (Sero taped him to a lamppost outside for creeping through the girls wardrobes) and Denki who had accidentally short circuited his brain during the training exercise and is now sleeping until the effects wear off.

Izuku relaxed on the sofa and joined in an easy conversation with his classmates about trivial topics such as any recent movies they have watched or favourite celebrities. It was nice getting to know the people close to him better, they felt like a second family at this point in the year.

After a while, the conversation dwindled as people began to watch TV or scroll on their phones while Katsuki and Sato began to cook in the kitchen.

When they first moved into the dorms, it was a mess as no one knew what to do. However, they quickly tried to solve this problem and after a lot of trial and error they eventually made a chore list that had different people do different jobs, for example Katsuki and Sato cooked for them and Izuku and Ochako did the grocery shopping with the allowance money the school set for them. Everyone did a vote and collectively decided that Mineta would take out the trash.

Suddenly, the peaceful atmosphere that had emerged was broken by an excited gasp from Momo. Heads turned in her direction while Tsu paused the sitcom they were watching.

When Momo didn't respond for a few seconds, Jiro took the initiative to ask “Hey, is everything alright?” In a concerned and confused tone.

In her state of excitement she accidentally ignored Jiro's question, but she did end up revealing what was going on. “Oh my god! There's a visible meteor shower tonight!” Momo exclaimed.

“Cool,” Jiro responded, slightly disappointed that it wasn't some news about heroes in action or something more intriguing.

Momo snapped out of her trance and further explained. “Wait guys, this meteor shower only happens every thirty three years, and it's a massive one as well,”

“Let's watch it tonight,” Sero said. “What time is it going to be?” Sero often stayed up late playing video games with his friends, so he saw no harm in staying up late like usual just this time he would be stargazing not playing exploding castle VIII.

Momo checked her phone and then looked up once she found the answer to his question “It's peak will be between midnight and 2am,” she replied sheepishly as she knew that they still had school the next day.

“We should definitely watch it, I've never seen one before and I've heard they are beautiful,” Mina said. “It's also a sign of good luck to some people so maybe it can help us with our exams coming up.”

Kirishima was next to respond. “Yeah we need all the help we can get, I don't want to risk Aizawa expelling one of us,” Aizawa always threatened to expel them, and with his track record of doing so to previous classes it did make him seem scary.

However, he was yet to severely punish any of their class so far. That fact however did not make the students less afraid of their homeroom teacher.

After everyone decided that they would risk exhaustion tomorrow in order to stargaze and observe the wonders of meteors as they travel across the night sky. All that was left was to convince the two boys who had cooked for them.

When Katsuki and Sato had delivered their dinner and everyone dug into the pasta dish that was served, some of the class began to advocate the reasons why it would be a fantastic idea. Sato was easily convinced but Katsuki was less sure, he usually went to bed earlier than most so it might be difficult to get him to agree to staying up that late.

Katsuki had argued that there was no point being off his game tomorrow just to see the stars because in his words ‘they are there every night,’

Momo rolled her eyes and explained how it wasn't just seeing the stars but witnessing a beautiful natural event that could be a once in a lifetime experience.

Unsurprisingly, that did nothing to change Katsuki's opinion and he still resisted the idea. What was surprising is that afterwards Kirishima leant over to Katsuki and whispered something in his ear that caused the explosive boy to pause and think for a couple seconds before grumbling “Fine, I'll go. But if it goes past 1am and nothing exciting happens, then I'm going back to my room.”

Everyone but Katsuki's group of friends seemed surprised at this change. Izuku was very intrigued to know what Kirishima must have said.

Maybe he bribed him, but bribed him with what though is the question. Katsuki doesn't need any money from Kirishima. Maybe he promised to buy him a hero action figure? What could be so important that Katsuki would change his mind for? Izuku will have to ask later.

The whole class quickly finished their meals and thanked the chefs who made it. They all walked hurriedly to their rooms to get any school work done now instead of when they were tired tomorrow, but also to pass the time until midnight arrived.

Izuku finished his math and English assignments before leaving his room. He closed the door behind him and headed towards the stairs where he ran into Katsuki. They both greeted each other awkwardly before going down the stairs in silence.

Katsuki and him had recently been getting closer over the past couple months, there was less fighting, less insults and more understanding between them. Izuku felt as though he knew Katsuki better and it almost felt like they had stayed friends their entire life. It was nice.

Shockingly, Katsuki was the first to speak, “So, are you looking forward to tonight?” he asked with his head facing the stairs, avoiding eye contact. He had his hands in the pockets of his black sweatpants.

“I am, I asked my mom and she said that she watched these same meteors over thirty years ago when they last came around, so I think it would be amazing for me to see the same meteors,” Izuku exclaimed with a wide smile spread across his face.

“My old hag said the same thing, I think she watched them with your mom or something, she said they were cool or some shit like that,”

“I hope the meteors arrive before it gets too late or we accidentally fall asleep,”

“Don't worry, if that happens I'll just force the sparkly laser extra to go on the roof and shoot his weird belly button laser thingy into the sky to make it look like a meteor shower,”

Izuku laughed, “That's funny Kacchan,”

“I'm serious,” He responded with a small smile on his face.

“Well let's hope for Aoyama's sake and our own enjoyment that the meteors do come,” Izuku said, still smiling.

“I don't know about you but I would love to see him struggling with a stomach ache on the roof trying to make it look like shooting stars,” Katsuki said, a chuckle escaping his mouth at the mental image that formed in his head.

“Hey that's mean Kacchan,” Izuku tried to look stern but the impression was broken by the ends of his lips twitching up into a grin and his eyes looking bright and cheerful.

“I'll just tell him that it was your idea then,” Katsuki said before he went faster down the stairs towards where the sparkly boy in question was.

Realising what Katsuki was about to do, Izuku ran down the stairs shouting at him to stop.

Once Izuku made it to the lounge area, Katsuki was already there and was pointing at Aoyama.

“Oi you, sparkly one,”

“Moi?”

“Yeah you. Who else would I be talking to,”

Izuku tried to interrupt. “Kacchan wait!”

Katsuki smirked while holding Izuku back to continue speaking to Aoyama. “Deku here just wanted to tell you-”

“Wait Kacchan!” Izuku tried to stop him but to no avail. Katsuki kept his hold on his chest to push him back.

“-that he thinks your hero outfit has a wonderful design,” Katsuki turned around to face Izuku with a shit-eating grin.

Izuku let out a huge sigh of relief and once again tried to stare at Katsuki to tell him off non verbally. However, the more he looked at Katsuki's smug expression, the more his face turned from a serious look to a smile that burst into a toothy grin that he couldn't hold back.

“Merci, mon chéri! The adoration makes me blush,” Aoyama said passionately while sparkles appeared around him as he dramatically posed.

Izuku gave him a smile and his eyes strayed over to Katsuki's friends. Denki (who now felt better and had come downstairs) was sharing a mischievous look with Kirishima who was occasionally looking at where he and Katsuki were standing.

Izuku ignored them and walked with Katsuki to the sofas because they had decided to watch a movie until it was time to go outside. They all gave their suggestions of what to watch but collectively decided on a superhero movie from before quirks came around, the majority of the class liked classics such as this and Izuku especially loved them as they involved his favourite thing: superheros.

Izuku was sitting between Todoroki and Ochako, the movie went by quite quickly as it was jam-packed full of action that had Izuku on the edge of his seat. The only interruption is when Shoji went to get some snacks for everyone from the kitchen which was a very good thing as Izuku would definitely need energy to stay up that late.

Due to the amount of school work he's had to do lately, he hasn't been able to keep himself up past 11pm, as right now it was getting closer to that time, he began to feel the effects of his fatigue. He began to yawn and his eyes would droop constantly, it felt as though it took more effort to keep them open.

At some point the sounds from the movie and people talking died down as darkness surrounded him. He had succumbed to his need to sleep.

He doesn't know how much time has passed but he's being woken up gently by someone shaking his shoulder. Once he opens his eyes fully and blinks a couple times to clear his vision, he sees a head with spiky blond hair belonging to the boy that was crouched in front of him with his hand on Izuku’s shoulder.

“Hey. Wake up sleepyhead, it's time to watch the meteors now,” Katsuki said in a much gentler tone than Izuku was used to hearing from him.

Izuku took the time to stray his eyes from Katsuki and to the rest of the room which was now empty of the people who once sat there.

“Kacchan, where is everyone?” Izuku asked, but he still felt a little groggy. He's slightly disappointed that he missed the end of the movie and now he's curious as to whether he snored loudly in front of his class.

“They're all getting blankets and pillows and shit to be comfy on the ground. Come on, you get your stuff,” Katsuki said before handing a hand out for Izuku to take. Izuku took it gladly and noted how warm his hands were. Maybe it's related to his quirk, Izuku will have to write it down in his notebook later that night.

They both made their way up the stairs to their respective rooms and collected everything they would need. When Izuku opened his door he was surprised to see Katsuki waiting outside holding his own pillow and blanket, he was leaning against the wall in a comfortable position.

Izuku nervously said. “Oh, hi Kacchan,” his surprise was evident in his voice.

“Hurry up, I was just making sure you hadn't fallen asleep in there, but now I see you were just being slow,” Katsuki teased.

“Shut up, I wasn't that slow,” They fell into a familiar rhythm of teasing each other as they made their way out of the building.

“Well you were slow enough that I managed to get everything I need and still be bored waiting for you,”

Once they got outside, they saw that most of the class were laying on their blankets, facing the sky.

“Helloooo. Can somebody let me down now?” Mineta whined from where he was still taped to the lamppost. Wow, was he still out there, that does explain the lack of chaos Izuku has experienced in the last couple hours.

“Hard no bro,” Sero responded, crossing his arms to make an ‘x’ shape. The girls giggled as Mineta let out a loud groan.

“But I've learned my lesson, I promise,” Mineta sounded like a toddler who wasn't getting his way, well he's halfway there anyway as he's the same height as one, maybe even shorter.

“Dude you said that last time but here we are,” Kirishima retorted.

Izuku noticed that all the spaces directly next to his friends were already taken by his fellow classmates, especially some of Katsuki's friends so he decided to place his blanket behind Ochako's. He was slightly surprised to find Katsuki placing his own blanket next to Izuku's All Might one. Despite his shock, he was also glad as he enjoyed Katsuki's company, especially with how close they have gotten recently.

Izuku lay down and faced Katsuki. “I'm really excited, I hope they appear before I fall asleep again,”

“If you do I'll just wake you again,”

It was comforting to know how much Izuku placed his trust in Katsuki, he knew that he often showed his loyalty and showed much he actually cared for others through his actions.

Despite trusting Katsuki to wake him up, Izuku was determined to stay up (both to see the cosmic event and also to chill and relax with the boy next to him.)

Over the next hour or so, Izuku and Katsuki talked about a range of topics including their interest and opinions, with the occasional joke being told that caused the other to bend at the waist with how much they were laughing.

At some point Izuku turned towards the sky whilst his laughter began to fade and he admired the stars. He pointed out a few constellations in the sky that he could see like the Big Dipper or Orions belt. If Katsuki couldn't see one, he would shuffle a little closer to be able to point to them easier and more precisely from Katsuki's perspective.

That's how Izuku managed to end up lying shoulder to shoulder with the blond boy. His heart sped up at the thought of how close he was. He tries to distract himself from his obvious crush on Katsuki in order for him to not find out.

“The stars are beautiful,” Izuku says, trying desperately to focus on the sky and not the warmth of Katsuki's shoulder bleeding through his shirt.

“Yeah, they are,” Izuku heard his reply, except he was confused as to why he felt the gentle warm puff of Katsuki's breath on the side of his face. His curiosity caused Izuku to turn his face towards Katsuki and to his surprise he found a pair of ruby eyes staring directly at him.

They both lay there, staring at each other, waiting to see if one of them will back away. Izuku's eyes were roaming across Katsuki's face, trying to read his thoughts, however his eyes constantly dropped to his lips. When he realised that he'd been looking at Katsuki's lips for way too long, he looked up to find Katsuki's eyes were also cast down, looking at something below his eyes.

Eventually, they both locked eyes again. Katsuki (having always been the braver and more confident of the pair) slowly raised his hand and gently laid it across Izuku's cheek, cupping his face.

Almost as though there was something inside them that pulled them together like two magnets, they gravitate closer and closer. Izuku fluttered his eyes closed as they stopped a few centimeters from each other.

Time slowed down as all that has ever happened between them has led to this singular moment.

Almost breathlessly, Izuku heard Katsuki quietly say “Can I-”

“Yes” Izuku interrupted him, he knew what he was going to say and he knew what he wanted.

That confirmation was all Katsuki needed to close the gap between them and pressed a soft kiss to Izuku's lips. Izuku felt a blush forming on his face as he felt fireworks explode in his stomach. Everything felt perfect.

After a few kisses shared between them, they pulled back to take in some oxygen. Izuku felt as though he had held his breath the entire time.

As soon as their breathing returned to normal, Izuku licked his lips and saw Katsuki's eyes gravitate to them, the thought made his blush worsen.

Katsuki's hand changed positions to the back of his neck, tangling in his green curls. They leaned in once again as if they were silently communicating that they wanted more. There was a new angle this time that made the kiss feel more intimate, especially when Izuku felt Katsuki's tongue press against the seam of his lips as though it was asking to enter.

Izuku's lips parted, allowing Katsuki to deepen the kiss. Izuku knows that he hasn't been breathing at all during the kiss, but he feels as though he doesn't need oxygen to survive, only Katsuki. He could feel his heart beating loudly but it was slowly downed out by Izuku solely focusing on Katsuki: the feeling of his hand in his hair, the feeling of his lips against Izuku's own. He felt ecstatic.

All good things come to an end is what Izuku thinks when they eventually part. Izuku tries to keep kissing Katsuki but he places a firm hand on Izuku's chest to keep him away.

Before Izuku can feel disappointed, Katsuki quickly explains. “Look, it's the meteor shower,” he says while chuckling after seeing how desperate Izuku is to continue kissing. He could now hear a few of his friends marvel at the beautiful sight in the sky above.

They both turn to face the sky and Izuku sees a few meteors fly by, it's breathtakingingly beautiful to watch as dashes of light dance across the sky.

Izuku nudges his pinky finger against Katsuki's and is happy when Katsuki takes his invitation and wraps his hand around his own. A warmth blooms in his chest and face.

“I like you,” Izuku blurted out randomly, quiet enough that no one could hear it but Katsuki because of how close they were.

Katsuki let out a small chuckle. “No shit,”

A couple seconds passed by before Katsuki spoke again. “I like you too nerd,” he sounded more vulnerable as he admitted his feelings.

Hearing that made an uncontrollable smile spread across Izuku's face, he turned to face Katsuki to find the blond was already looking at him with a similar grin.

Seeing Katsuki look at him with such happiness and fondness made everything worth it. Huh, maybe the meteors do bring good luck.

The end

This was my first fic so lets hope the A03 curse doesn't get me.

Also if you were wondering what Kirishima said to Katsuki to convince him, it was "This is your chance to finally get with Izuku,"

Have a lovely day :)
