Hiro sprinted as if his life depended on it. As sheriff of Splatsville this was his only chance to catch the famous bandit, Veronika. He had gotten word that she was currently robbing the town’s bank from a witness and this was his one shot to lock up the elusive Veronika for good.
For as long as Hiro had been sheriff Veronika had been causing trouble. It started off small with her breaking into the junkyard but slowly she got bolder robbing salons and shops. She wasn’t exactly a local, she just lurked around the Splatlands coming and going as she pleased. Though to everyone that lived in Splatsville she was well known, an urban legend of sorts.
Wait made the bandit even more strange was her affiliation with the small salmonid that was always by her side. There wasn’t a moment she was without the small fish even on her heists.
Veronika was a dangerous criminal on the run and needed to be caught. Though the reason she hadn’t been caught yet was because she was extremely fast. The moment someone would tip off the sheriff on her location she was already gone. A few times Hiro had gotten close but she was also a deadly archer with her tri stringer.
The sheriff swung open the doors of the bank with a loud thud and there she was. The yellow haired bandit stood facing the bank teller, her tri string ready to shoot. Other employees and townsfolk were hiding under tables or behind the counter, anywhere she couldn’t see them.
“Veronika, just what do you think you’re doing here?” Hiro said as he pointed his .96 gal towards her. The silent bandit whipped her head around with a cocky smirk and slowly progressed closer to the other.
She loaded up her tri-stringer pointing it directly at the town sheriff. “It’s cute you think you can stop me.” Veronika laughed as she launched her 3 small ink missiles (whatever you call em). The whole bank erupted in a mix of shock, fear, and chaos. Veronika had never spoken before so seeing her talk for the first time to the sheriff of all people was insane to them.
Hiro narrowly dodged them with the missiles landing in front of his feet. That was when he then remembered that they blew up upon landing on the ground.
Yellow ink splattered all over Hiro’s skin leaving a stinging sensation that practically burned. Veronika then made a run for it out the window but Hiro gathered the strength to run after her before she could get far.
The two dashed through the sand, Veronika occasionally looking back to stick her tongue out at Hiro. Hiro stayed close behind Veronika making fruitless attempts to grab onto her cape and pull her back. Eventually their cat and mouse chase came to halt when Hiro threw a splash wall in front of Veronika giving him the opportunity to grab onto her before she could run off.
“You are under arrest, you have the right to remain silent." Hiro said as he clipped the handcuffs onto Veronika while she thrashed around.
Later Hiro brought Veronika to the Sheriff's office and the two sat down in a small dimly lit interrogation room. The two sat in silence, the only noise in the room was the hum of the AC.
“Alright. So by the new law passed by the Splatland hierarchy I’m legally obligated to interrogate you before I throw you in jail. Something about physiological evaluation” Hiro slid over the table a paper detailing the new law and what was to come during the procedure. “I’ll ask you this once; why did you do it?”.
“Money.” Veronika replied matter of factly. “Well and fame.”. Hiro nodded and wrote something down on a sheet of paper.
“Have you ever been to a mental hospital?”
“No.”
The sheriff nodded “Are you in any possession of illegal materials?”
“Actually yeah, I have an inkstrike.”
Hiro looked shocked before writing something down “Yeah you’re getting extra time for that.” He muttered under his breath. “Do you have a criminal history at all outside of robbing banks?”
“This is dumb, I could just lie to you.”
“Yes or no, just answer the question.” He sighed.
“Yes, I’ve done turf war battles.” She groaned.
“Alright last one. Why are you complying with this interrogation?"
“Cuz you’re lowkey cute.”
“I’m going to ignore that last sentiment.”
Veronika smiled “C’mon I’m not that bad”
“You are a literal criminal.” Hiro rolled his eyes.
“Well maybe when I’m out of jail?”
“Maybe.” Hiro sighed. “But that is not the point of this interrogation.” Hiro glared at Veronika who was playing with her salmonid.
After spending about 3 days in jail Veronika proceeded to break out and rob the town’s general store.
Hiro showed up to the crime scene yet again and Veronika was standing there as expected. “Heyyy haven’t seen you in a while.” Veronika smirked, turning around to face Hiro.
“I’m going to punch you in the face.” Hiro said as he took out his .96 gal and handcuffs.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah anyways I’ma head out.” With that she sprinted off yet again. Everyone witness in the general store stood in shock at what just happened. The most ruthless criminal in the Splatlands was flirting with their sheriff.
Hiro yet again caught Veronika and he brought her back to the interrogation room just as before.
“Seriously,” Hiro sighed “By the law I’m required to interrogate you before placing you in jail. So let me ask; why did you do it?”.
“You haven’t talked to me like at all.” She frowned.
“Have you seriously been doing all these robberies to get attention.” Hiro’s face dropped in shock.
“Maybe,” Veronika smirked, twirling her braid. “I mean at first it was for the money n’ stuff but then you showed up and I started to enjoy the chase.”.
Hiro facepalmed “You could have served a couple years in jail and then just asked me out like a normal person. Plus you still robbed all those people for no reason.”.
“Well I haven’t really stolen anything since I noticed you. I usually just fled after you showed up. I like the chase more than anything.” She shrugged.
“You’re an idiot.” Hiro put his head in his hands.
