Chapter Text

mike,
it's been one year since we graduated. i've sent you 14 letters. i wonder all the time.. have you even read them? i even still think of you, late at night. new things to tell you, new pleads to try. what i will say in my next letter. oh mike. what're you doing? don't you see? i wish you would send a letter back..just one letter. i can't even tell if these are being sent to a living human or not.
i miss you, mike.
- will the wise
Jesus. I'm such an idiot.
He grabs a crumpled paper from the floor amd flattens it out onto his lap
His hand trembles as it hovers above the page, but there is nothing to say. He shoves the paper off of his bed and flops backwards into his pillow.
There is nothing to say to him. No cool stories or new friends. Hopeless is him.
Every month, like clockwork, Will sends 2 letters. Full of adventures and the accomplishments he's proud of, his worst struggles.. his new friends.
Every month Mike reads them..over and over, replaying them in his head wishing he had something, anything to say. Anything that would make it seem like he's doing okay, but there's nothing.
His hands would hover over the pages like a snake waiting to strike. Trembling.
I miss you too. Emotionless.
I wish you would come back. Hopeless.
Come visit! Horrible.
There is truly nothing.
Mike folds the letter up neatly and puts it back in the envelope, and sets it in the crate that is overflowing with the scriptures of Will the Wise.
He misses him. He so, so desperately misses him.
He's just.. scared. He had told himself for years this wasnt who he was..that this isn't the way. Ever since he lost El he's been so different, sheltered, alone. How was he meant to accept it in a year and..go back to Will?

- will the wise
Mike's eyes move from side to side slowly as he reads the letter, tears filling the brim of his eyes. He blinks and they fall slowly into the curves of his nose then down to his lip.
A shuddering breath leaves his chest and and he shuts his eyes tight, the letter falling from his hands as he draws in another shuddering breath. "Will.." He utters out, his voice quiet and hoarse. He wishes he could hear his voice. One letter..one call..no. He can't do it. He just can't. Not yet.
