Summary
Sentenced by an ancient vampire Council, Jaeyi is spared execution only to suffer a crueler punishment. One year as the silent guardian of a human without revealing her true nature.
Woo Seulgi is a medical student whose kindness and stubborn honesty have earned her powerful enemies and a death sentence written in blood and contracts she will never see.
Seulgi offers warmth in thoughtless ways: late-night coffee, easy trust, a hand on Jaeyi's sleeve. Jaeyi tells herself her watch is simply an obligation. But she notices Seulgi's favorite coffee, the way her breathing slows in sleep, the hand she can't stop brushing against a sleeve. Each brush against the soft fabric weakens Jaeyi’s resolve, making the boundary between duty and desire blur.
But duty does not explain learned habits, shared breaths, or why the year's end feels sharper than any blade the Council could raise.
