Rain Dances

Summary:

"You can either dance in the rain or sulk in the rain. It will rain regardless."

OR:

Skylor finds Nya outside in the rain. The Water Ninja starts to talk.

Work Text:

"Nya?" Skylor walked through the warehouse, searching for her friend who seemed to have disappeared in the middle of the night.

Eventually after about ten minutes of walking around aimlessly, the redhead passed a window; one of the few uncovered ones in the entire building, but only because it was really small. Through it, however, she saw something odd.

Nya was standing still in the rain, head tilted towards the sky and hands slightly outwards. This was only strange because one, Nya hardly ever stood still in the time that the two had known each other, two, the noirette was the dayest bird Skylor had ever met, and three, out of everyone involved in the resistance, Nya was the most adamant about staying inside where the Sons of Garmadon couldn't see you. 'Hypocrite.'

Skylor went to the door beside the window and pulled her hood over her head. Opening the door a bit, she did a quick look around before stepping outside to accompany her friend.

"Hey Nya?" she said, but it elicited no response from the other girl other than a short reply.

"Yeah?"

"It's probably best if you head inside now," Skylor replied, lost for reasons why the noirette would even be out here in the first place. "You know, because of the evil biker gang worshiping Garmadon?"

"Guess I forgot about that."

"How would you forget about the people trying to kill us?"

"The rain." Nya said it so blatantly, yet so calmly, that Skylor was lost for words. "Don't you just love it?" Skylor stared at her in confusion before she continued.

"The way it's downpour never seems to end until the soil is satisfied, and sometimes even more than that. "

Skylor raised her eyebrows. She was not expecting this kind of deep shit in the middle of the night, in the rain. Still, however much Nya wanted to stay out here it was dangerous-

"The rain scares away the Sons, by the way. For a fierce biker gang, it's funny how something seemingly so insignificant to the world scares them. Maybe it's the unpredictability, or maybe it's the fact that they can't stand something so beautiful."

"Any reason you decided to become a philosopher or..?" Skylor trailed off, at a loss for words because of her friend's own.

"Take my hand."

"What?"

"We're going to dance."

Skylor felt a slight blush creep onto her face at the sudden proposal. "Why?"

"You can either dance in the rain or sulk in the rain. It will rain regardless."

"Damn. Uh, if that's the case then, I accept," The redhead lifted her own hand and joined it with the noirette's already outstretched one.

Slowly, Nya led Skylor through the puddles in the courtyard as the two stepped to the beat of the somehow-rhythmic rain. Smiles broad on each of their faces, they stayed like that, steadily weaving through the yard of puddles until the sun started to creep over the horizon. However, throughout their dance session, both had failed to notice how close they had gotten to one another.

They quickly pulled away, not noticing the slight pink and red shades creeping onto both of their faces.

"We should probably head inside now..." Skylor said, gesturing towards the door to the warehouse with a thumb. "The Sons should be out and about soon."

"Yeah..." Nya replied, still staring at the other, no apparent expression upon her face. Suddenly, without any warning, the noirette leaned forward and planted a small kiss on an unsuspecting Skylor's cheek before walking inside at a brisk pace.

Skylor, on the other hand, was stuck in place, still staring after Nya even long after she had gone inside. Just one thought and one thought only coursed through the redhead's mind:

'What the fuck had just happened?'
