A groan escapes into the air.
The one who made it, a little cup, slowly blinks his eyes open.
He is on the ground. It’s soft and wet. He sits up and rubs his head.
As Cuphead sits and thinks, he begins to recollect what had happened.
What was I doing? …right, we had gotten rid of that big gizmo… and Shovel was just about to go home…
Suddenly it all came rushing back. Then that white one that merked me appeared, and I barely had enough time to grab Niko before bustin’ out of there!
He stands up and spins around, taking everything in.
The sky is lit by stars and a bright red moon. They illuminate the fresh soil. Everything is flat, but light fog obscures Cuphead’s view so that he can’t see far away.
After he finishes observing everything, he cups his hands around his mouth and yells for Niko’s name.
There is no response.
Cuphead’s eyebrow furrows in concern. They wouldn’tve wandered off, surely.
He squints to try to make out anything, but Niko is nowhere to be seen.
”Where could they have gone?”
Cuphead was hesitant to move, afraid to get lost in the fog forever. Before he can muster the courage to cut through the fog, something catches his eye.
a small white dot in the distance. The fog seems to intensify the light so whatever it was can be seen from a mile away. The light slowly gets bigger as the entity gets closer. Cuphead would be afraid if the light didn’t feel comforting.
Eventually, the light gets close enough for Cuphead to see what it is. A small… animal, almost. It has deer-like legs, and arms that get bigger and shape into sharp fingers. Its limbs attach to a rather normal shaped oval body. Its head is shaped like a squirrel’s, the only difference being that it has long ears, stretching to be the same size as its face. Its eyes are pitch black other than its white pupil that sparkles as they turn their head. Cuphead could be convinced it's a harmless animal if it didn’t glow an intense white light.
Cuphead flinches as his eyes adjust to the light. The sudden motion alerts the wandering animal, and the two lock eyes. The animal’s widen, and it comes bounding towards Cuphead. In defense he holds up his finger, and at the sight the animal jumps back and pulls out a sword.
I… was not expecting it to be able to fight.
Cuphead lowers his finger and beckons the animal in the most friendly way he can manage. The animal cautiously puts away its sword and comes forward. Cuphead was expecting for it to act like a cat and lick (or bite) his fingers, but instead it walks up and stares at him.
”Uhh, heya, little guy.” He says awkwardly.
They nod. They can understand.
”Do ya know where we are?”
They shake their head.
”Have ya seen a kid who looks like a cat anywhere?”
They shake their head.
He sighs. “That’s no good,” After looking at them for a moment longer he adds, “The name’s Cuphead. Yours?”
