Work Text:
Everyone always said that Nya and Pixal were never supposed to be together because water always ruins technology.
Pixal didn't know which hurt more: the fact that she loved Nya with all of her artificial heart and yet people still called it 'fake,' or that people considered Pixal as 'just a piece of technology.' She had confided in Zane multiple times -- she considered the other nindroid to be like a brother to her -- about how much it hurt, to have people decide on one object to represent her and Nya, and then only talked about all the ways those objects were incompatible, instead of all the ways that they are. The only reason she hadn't talked to Nya about this was because she was afraid of the doubt it'd bring into the relationship.
She was scared of Nya leaving, however absurd it may sound. Zane had told her that it was called 'overthinking things.' Pixal knew that, but it still wasn't calming her processors.
Eventually, Nya began to notice her girlfriend's withdrawn behavior around everyone, especially her. She became worried, and so, she went to ask Zane if he knew anything about why Pixal was acting like this.
"I know that by telling you this, I am breaking my promise of confidentiality to Pixal," Zane stated, then sighed as they continued, "but you may be able to help her better than I can." Now Nya was really concerned.
Taking a deep breath, she requested, "Tell me." So, Zane did. By the end of the pairs talking session, Nya knew exactly how she was going to help Pixal.
However, she was going to need some help first.

"Come on, come on, come on!" The brunette begged, nearly taking Pixal's arm off with his incessant pulling.
"Alright Kai," the nindroid sighed and got up from her spot on the garage floor. "I will follow you because I am interested, but also because I am not interested in having my arm pulled off today." Kai unapologetically let go of her arm and started walking with Pixal close behind. "May I ask where we are headed, at least?"
"Nope!" Kai cheered and continued to walk forward. Pixal inwardly groaned, but decided to keep on following the brunette.
Eventually, the two reached the garden outside of the monastery, where a soft light was coming from around the corner of one of the taller hedges.
"And this is where I leave 'ya. Good luck~" Kai shot two thumbs up in a confused Pixal's direction before speeding away, leaving her to simply just walk towards the light.
Pixal turned the corner and was met with a sheepishly smiling Nya, who was sitting on a large purple and blue picnic blanket.
"Hey, Pix," Nya waved, and Pixal walked forward and sat down next to the noirette, who had taken to gazing at the stars. Pixal followed her gaze and was immediately amazed by how many stars were showing that night. Usually, only a few stray stars would poke out from behind the clouds, but on that particular night, Pixal estimated that there were thousands in the dark black and blue sky.
"This is... Nya, I do not know how to describe just how amazing this is."
The noirette chuckled. "That's saying something. Listen, Pix?" Nya asked, turning her head in Pixal's direction.
"Yes, Nya?" The nindroid replied, meeting Nya's gaze.
"You know do and will always love you, right?" Pixal nodded, unsure where this was going. "Good. Then it shouldn't matter what those dumbasses down in Ninjago City say about us."
The pair then fell into a comfortable silence, content with just gazing into each other's eyes. Then, Nya slowly leaned forward and kissed Pixal, who kissed back just as gently. The two stayed like that for a couple seconds before pulling back, soft smiles evident on each girl's face. They each turned their gazes back to the stars, laying down on the picnic blanket, and Nya rested her head against Pixal's shoulder.
"No fried circuits here?" the noirette chuckled.
"Indeed."

Kai and Zane watch the two from behind one of the bushes, then, content with the results, stood up and headed back into the monastery.
"Brothers-in-law?" Kai asked, smirking. He held out a fist.
"Brothers-in-law," Zane replied, returning the fist bump.
