Life can be Magical

Summary:

Malleus and Silver thought they have a normal life, but that was before they met a fairy and learned about the Realm of Magic, and the wonderous academy of Alfea.

Chapter 1: Episode One: Fairies Exist?

Chapter Text

Malleus yawned as the sun hit his eyes, watching Lilia open the blinds while humming to himself.

"Morning, sleepyhead," Lilia grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief. Malleus, still half-asleep, managed a groan in response. "Come on, Malleus, it's summer vacation! Even Silver is excited about it."

"And why should I be excited?" Malleus groaned as he forced himself out of bed. "It's going to be the same as always."

Lilia chuckled and ruffled his hair. "Malleus, don't be so gloomy! I have an early summer surprise for you." Her optimism was contagious, and Malleus couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope.

Reluctantly, Malleus got up and dressed. It was the beginning of summer vacation, a time that had never been his favorite. The scorching heat, the endless days, and the impending return to school always filled him with a sense of dread.

He was acutely aware of his differences, particularly in his appearance. While Lilia always found it intriguing, Malleus often felt like an outsider when he looked at himself, especially as he continued to grow taller over the years. His struggle with his love for faeries and their lore was a constant internal battle.

Sometimes, he dreams of becoming a fairy, or something of the sort, but why would he dream about such a thing? Did he like fae that much for him to want to become one? Those pictures and drawings plastered on the wall proved his imagination was larger than he thought, but now that he was 18, he shouldn't be thinking about such things.

Malleus sighed as he walked into the kitchen, watching his younger brother, Silver, doze off while Lilia filled a picnic basket. Rolling his eyes, Malleus shook Silver awake, watching as the younger boy jumped in surprise but quickly calmed down when he realized what had happened.

"Ah, Malleus," Silver yawned, rubbing his eyes. "Morning."

"Good morning," Malleus smiled and sat down. "What's Father doing?"

"I'm packing a picnic for all three of us," Lilia grinned. "The weather is perfect for it."

The boys exchanged glances before looking back at Lilia, which made the man frown. "What?"

"Father," Silver chuckled, his laughter filling the room, "you hate the summer."

"And secondly, you clearly aren't fit for it either," Malleus added, pointing at Lilia's outfit. "Black on black? Father, you're begging for a heat stroke."

Lilia feigned sadness. "Aw, boys, you're breaking your father's heart. Besides, I have pink on too, in case you think I'll faint. It's to protect my skin; I like to keep my pale complexion for as long as I can."

"Vain as always," Malleus winked at Silver.

"Come on, a family picnic is a grand idea to kick off the summer, and I got us some special bikes for the occasion," Lilia said excitedly as he pulled the boys outside.

Outside their small house were three pairs of bikes, each decorated beautifully.

"Oh, wow! Did you do this for us?" Silver exclaimed.

"Of course I did," Lilia grinned. "Anything for my boys."

A jingle inside the house caused Lilia to stumble a moment before clearing his throat. "Boys, how about you two wait out here, I have to take a small phone call." Lilia spoke suddenly, handing the picnic basket to Silver. "I'll be right back."

Malleus and Silver both stared at each other as Lilia rushed inside and back to the bikes. Malleus hid a small smirk as he readied his bike, ringing the bell. "Hm, how about we go ourselves, Silver? Father can catch up with us later."

Silver chuckled as he got on his bike. "You sure? You haven't suggested such a thing ever since we were children."

"Well, it's summer vacation, and why not start a new summer tradition?" Malleus winked as he began to ride away, with Silver behind him.

Malleus and Silver were raised in the beautiful town of Blair Valley, known for its landscapes. The two brothers always loved the place, and every time they walked —or, now, rode—throughout town, everything became lively and new.

As Malleus and Silver pedaled down the sunlit streets of Blair Valley, the warm summer breeze tousling their hair, they were drawn to an unusual sight ahead. A sleek, shiny car glimmered under the sunlight, parked at the curb with a polished finish that caught the eye.

"Is that…?" Silver squinted, his eyes widening. "It can't be!"

Malleus followed his brother's gaze, recognition dawning on his face. "Vil."

Sure enough, Vil Schoenheit stepped out of his new car, his stylish presence magnified by the immaculate vehicle. Dressed in an outfit that effortlessly melded fashion and comfort, he exuded confidence. His hair glinted with an immaculate shine, and his smile was as sharp as his outfit.

"Well, if it isn't Malleus and Silver," he called out, leaning against the car with casual grace. "What are two boys like you doing on bikes when there's a spectacular summer waiting to be enjoyed in style?"

"Just heading to a family picnic," Malleus replied, trying his best to sound nonchalant. "What about you?"

"I just picked up my new car," Vil said, beaming with pride. "Thought I'd take it for a spin through the valley. Figured I could also teach a few people about how to travel in style."

"Maybe you should share some of that style with Father," Silver teased, glancing at Malleus and then back at Vil. “I think he’d take notes.”

Malleus chuckled, picturing Lilia's reaction to the luxurious car. "He certainly would."

Vil pushed himself off the car and sauntered closer. "A picnic, huh? Sounds dreadfully mundane, but if I can offer a diversion, I’ve got room for you both. Why not let me drive you there? It would be a splendid way to elevate your summer experience."

Silver's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. "That sounds awesome!"

Malleus raised an eyebrow, contemplating the offer. "Are you sure you want to do that? There’s something special about riding our bikes."

"True, but think of it this way," Vil countered smoothly. "You can enjoy your picnic without worrying about the heat. Plus, you could use the extra comfort." His voice held a teasing edge as he continued, "Unless, of course, you prefer to be the unfortunate souls sweating under the summer sun."

"Yeah, I prefer the bike riding," Silver spoke up as he rode away. "Better than those brand new cars."

Malleus shrugged as he followed his brother towards the national park, resting his bike against the tree, watching his younger brother unpack the picnic.

They found a perfect spot beneath a sprawling oak tree, its shade providing a cool refuge from the summer sun. Malleus hopped off his bike, an unusual sense of excitement weaving through his usual melancholy. With a swift motion, he helped Silver set down the picnic basket, which was adorned with a cheerful checkered blanket.

"Looks like we’ve got a great spread," Malleus said as he opened the basket, revealing an array of delicious treats—sandwiches, fruits, chips, and even a few cookies. Lilia had outdone himself, as always.

Silver's eyes sparkled as he pulled out a bright red apple, taking a large bite. "This is awesome, Malleus! I didn’t think we’d have such a feast!"

Malleus grinned, the corners of his mouth lifting in a rare smile. "Well, Lilia has always been good at making even the most mundane things exciting. It’s one of his many talents."

As they settled down on the blanket, the serene atmosphere enveloped them. Malleus couldn’t help but steal a glance at Silver, who seemed to radiate joy, his carefree laughter blending with the sounds of nature. Malleus felt a familiar yearning to share this moment with others, too, a reminder of how fleeting these precious times were.

"What’s next on your summer agenda after this?" Silver asked, munching on a piece of a sandwich.

Malleus paused, contemplating. "I don’t know. I guess I should just enjoy the break. Maybe explore more of those old faerie stories I like? Or you know... maybe actually try and make friends this summer?"

Silver raised an eyebrow. "Friends? Like actual friends? That sounds like a plan, Malleus! You should totally do it."

Malleus chuckled softly at Silver's enthusiasm. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try. And maybe you could join me? Strength in numbers?”

"Absolutely!" Silver said, glaring playfully at his brother. "Besides, your fae-obsession might just spark some interesting conversations."

They continued to chat and joke, the tension between them easing as laughter bubbled forth, making Malleus feel lighter than he had before. They devised plans for bike rides and potential adventures to try new things, and they shared secrets about their dreams.

Just as Malleus felt himself becoming immersed in the moment, he spotted a young family nearby flying colorful kites, their delighted shouts rising like a melody. For a fleeting second, he felt a sharp longing—perhaps for the carefree childhood they seemed to embody or for a connection he hadn’t realized he craved.

“Hey, look at that!” Silver pointed, breaking Malleus from his reverie. “Let’s bring our kites next time!”

Malleus nodded, heartened by the idea. It was during these brief conversations that he found glimmers of joy, which made the impending school year seem less daunting.

But the peaceful evening seemed to end as the ground began to shake and rumble, causing drinks to spill over and the brothers to jump. But they couldn't ask many questions before a young boy crashed into the tree behind them, before landing on the ground.

"Ugh, hey! I cannot fight you," the guy groaned as he forced himself up. "I mean it, my father and mother want me to get to school early and I can't be late!"

Silver and Malleus quickly looked over to see a creature with yellow-greenish skin, darkened purple eyes, and strong arms that could break any tree that came across its path. He roared for a moment, his eyes glaring at the guy between them.

"Prince Kalim of Solaria, give me the magical ring that controls the sun and the moon and you will be spared!" The Monster growled, pointing at the boy. "Refuse, or else your wings shall be ripped apart!"

Silver gasped as he saw peculiar sun-patterned wings on the stranger's back and a strange scepter in his hands. It was carefully decorated, with the center resembling a combination of the sun and the moon. The boy carefully got up, his scepter glowing a sparkling yellow, before he sent the beam towards the Monster, who crashed into the trees.

"Ah, I can't believe this," Kalim sighed before turning over to the humans. "Oh my stars! Are you okay?"

"Yes, yes, we are okay, but you...?" Silver gasped, looking at his wings.

"You are a fairy," Malleus gasped. "Like with actual wings and magic."

Kalim beamed. "Do you like them? I mean, yeah! I am a fairy, and I....hold on,"

Kalim aimed his scepter at the Monster again, as they rose higher. The Monster seemingly became relentless as he swung his arms towards Kalim, who dodged with ease. With every single doge, the ground shook harder and harder until Silver and Malleus crashed onto the ground.

Kalim gasped as he watched the humans collapse onto the ground, but that was enough of a distraction for the monster to grab the fairy tightly.

Malleus frowned as he watched the fairy struggle before fainting into his arms, seemingly transforming back into a normal human again. The anger fueled him enough to get up and walk towards the monster, his hands surrounded by a greenish fire, before he pointed at it.

"You let that man go now!" Malleus demanded as a purple dragon roared behind him, rushing towards the monster and circling it.

The dragon squeezed the monster, causing it to drop the fairy onto the ground, with Silver holding them close. He stared at Malleus, who was surrounded by green fire. The young boy held the fairy in his arms, gently rubbing his forehead, watching as the fairy relaxed in his care.

"Ugh! Fine, I'll retreat!" The Monster growled, and he was dropped onto the ground, rushing away.

Malleus coughed as he looked over at the two, rushing towards them.

"Are you alright?" Malleus gasped.

"Yes, but can you explain what you just do?" Silver gasped. "You summoned a massive dragon to crush the monster."

"It's strange to me," Malleus groaned, resting his hand on his head. "What had happened to me there, I think I was just so angry that I....summonded a dragon."

"Yeah, you summoned a dragon, and I am not forgetting this," Silver spoke and held Kalim in his arms. "We should get home before that monster wakes up or sees us again."

Malleus nodded in agreement.
--

Lilia gasped as he opened the door to see his sons rush inside.

"What in the world?!" Lilia watched as Silver placed the stranger on his couch and checked his forehead. "What happened to you? And who is that?"

"It's a lot, father, trust us," Silver quickly spoke. "Malleus."

Malleus checked the windows, taking a look around. "Nope, I don't see that monster. How's Kalim?"

Lilia stiffened at the name and looked down at the stranger. "I'm sorry, Kalim? As in Prince Kalim of Solaria?"

"You know who he is?"

Lilia sighed and sat down, looking down at Kalim. "Yes, yes, I do. But I didn't think I had to explain about him or anyone from....ugh, I have to ask. Is he a fairy?"

"You know about fairies??" Silver and Malleus asked simultaneously.

"Y-yeah, I do." Lilia nodded. "It's a lot of stuff, but I wish I had time to explain everything. But we need to tend to the prince, and see that he will be okay in the morning."

"Father, there's more to the story," Silver continued. "Malleus, he summoned a dragon, and he...had fire around him."

"You awakened your magic, Malleus?" Lilia asked. "That's a wonderful discovery, though I wish I could see it, so you wouldn't be so confused about everything, but well, no matter. I will be happy about it regardless."

Silver sighed and looked down at Kalim again. "So, fairies exist?"

"Yes, they do. I am one of them, " Lilia explained. "I didn't think that I would explain to you very early. But here we are, and now I have to, huh?"

"Yes."

Lilia sighed as he summoned magic in his hands. "Once Upon A Time, there was a realm, a realm that we called Wonder. Wonder is a home to all magic spells; each magical creature you have ever heard of lives within the lands and realms that Wonder has to offer. However, one of our realms, the Kingdom of Briar Valley and the Kingdom of Dawn, combined with humans and fae all around, was destroyed by an evil force. A force that I have remembered well, and each knight, fairy, witch, and mermaid fought hard as they ever could. And I was tasked with such a gracious task."

"A gracious task?"

Lilia grinned and cupped each of his sons' faces. "To watch over the princes of both Briar Valley and Dawn."

Silver and Malleus looked at each other before looking towards Lilia.

"Us?"

Lilia nods. "The Queens and Kings of the kingdom have entrusted me to care and raise you as my own. No matter what had happened to us, I have kept my promise and I intend to keep my promise." Lilia frowned. "I just wish I could..."

"Father, don't be sad," Silver smiled. "You have helped us so much, even now."

"You have raised us, and you are our father," Malleus added. "We are still grateful to you."

Lilia smiles and hugs his sons closely. "I am quite happy to know that I was such wonderful boys."

"Aw, that's so cute." Kalim complimented.

The family jumped as they quickly turned towards the prince, who wore a bright smile.

"You woke up?"

Kalim nodded.

"Grand, now you understand why I am quite upset at you, hm, Prince Kalim?" Lilia spoke formally, glaring down at the boy. "What were you thinking? Fighting a monster in the human realm, where barely anyone remembers magic even existed?"

"Well, it wasn't exactly my fault," Kalim frowned. "The monster attacked me out of nowhere while I was traveling between realms, and it just happened to be Earth I fell into. He wanted my ring, I don't understand it though. I know my ring is quite magical but I never understood it's important."

"Because that ring is the catalyst and magical force of Solaria itself." Lilia explained. "Into the wrong hands, they would use dark magic to take over all the realms. Glad you have the bravery to protect it."

Kalim looked down at his ring. "I wish I had Jamil with me, but he left without me to the realm of Wonder, so I basically had no one."

"Is it hard to travel between realms?"

"For a fairy, not really?" Kalim answered. "My ring helps me a ton!"

Lilia sighed. "You know what, I am glad you are alright. But you do know that you may stay the night?"

"Yeah, I figured so, but I do know....hold pn," Kalim paused, looking towards the kitchen. "Get back now!"

Kalim pushed the three back, transforming his ring into a septer and aiming towards the kitchen. "Reveal yourself in the name of Solaria!"

A dark wolf crashed into the kitchen, howling towards the group. Kalim frowned as he reached for his bag, releasing the magic that surrounded him, transforming him back into his fairy form.

"Stay away from them, I know it's me that you want! Sun Beam!"

The wolf growled at the light before Kalim kicked it outside, staring down at the wolf before noticing the goblins that crawled down towards him. Kalim frowned as he surrounded himself in a sunshield, looking around.

"Give us the ring!"

"Never!"

Kalim groaned as the goblins clashed at his force field, trying to keep strong. It wasn't until another beam attacked them.

The Monster growled. "Lilia Vanrouge, once royal guard of a destroyed realm. Many thought of you to be dead."

Lilia frowned. "Does it matter what I have been doing? Seems to me that you don't know when to quit."

The Monster roared as it summoned more goblins that endlessly attacked the two fairies, but they were each defeated and stumbled. Another unknown roar caused a quake as the purple dragon came back, surrounding the area.

"Malleus! Be careful with those powers," Lilia warned. "The Dragon's Flame is not something you can mess with! You'll burn everyone with the anger of yours."

Malleus nodded as he watched the dragon fly around the area again. But the dragon seemed to lose control, its jaw snapping towards the goblins and the wolves. As Malleus tried to control it, the dragon became even angrier, as if it fed off the anger that Malleus had fostered.

"Malleus, you need to calm down," Silver suddenly spoke up, grabbing his brother's arm. "The dragon is a part of you, and it will continue to feed off that energy."

"I can't calm it down," Malleus groaned. "It's hard to...!"

Silver gasped as the dragon roared towards Lilia and Kalim, with Kalim holding onto the sun shield that he had created earlier. He grabbed onto Malleus's arm, somehow releasing some energy. He watched Malleus's eyes flutter slightly as the dragon faded into purple smoke. But that meant the monster had escaped again.

But that didn't stop an arrow that almost struck Malleus.

"What's happening?"

"Just dealing with threats, as usual," spoke a gruff voice as he landed on the wolves. "But it seems that dragon took care of itself, hm?"

Malleus turned over and glared at the man, with such emerald eyes that glared down back, and a pair of lion's ears that were placed tenderly onto his head. But that didn't stop the flames from appearing in his palms, as it seemed obvious that it was the stranger who had almost struck him.

Kalim gasped as he flew between the two. "Woah! Leona, what are you doing here?"

"Do you want to know or do I have to spill out the obvious?" Leona huffed.

"Ugh, Jamil was worried, was he?" Kalim sighed as he transformed back. "Well, you can tell him that I'm fine and safe...also, why did you try to shoot Malleus?"

"Wasn't he the one who summoned that dragon?"

"Well, yes, but Malleus is new to all of this fairy stuff," sighed Kalim. "He isn't used to his magic, he just unlocked his magic for the first time."

"Hm, could've have fooled me." Leona smirked as he grabbed Malleus's chin. "Must be a dangerous little fairy, hm?"

Malleus felt his cheeks burn before turning away. "Hmph, best to leave before your little animals come back and chow you down."

Leona rolled his eyes. "Fine. But I need to get that fairy back to Alfea, or the headmaster will harm me."

Malleus and Silver looked over at each other before watching Kalim and Leona leave into the shadows, with Lilia using his magic to fix the house, muttering to himself.

"Well, boys," Lilia spoke up. "That was the evenful night of my life, I swear. But walk inside, we are going to have a long chat about everything and trust me, I will make sure that you know everything before you go."

"Go? Go where?" Malleus asked.

Lilia smirked and turned over. "To the school of faeries, the most majesty school in all on Wonder, Alfea Academy!"
