“You're my Dad, right?” Luffy asked, words heavy with desperation. He took a step forward, unsure of what it entailed.
“Yes.” Dragon swallowed hard, voice caught in his throat. “I am, Luffy."
He could have just lied, forget this whole thing had transpired, and let the wind take him back to the army he had created, the one he chose over the son he had currently standing right in front of him.
But to deny that he is Luffy's father is like killing himself in the process.
Or, Dragon takes back his son, but gains three in the process.

Summary
Step One, reach out to the father he never knew, express an interest in being family, check.
Step Two, let the World Nobles smirk and coo and think he’s as much a rehabilitated pet as an asset, confident in their own natural superiority, check.
Step Three, scout the Holy Land for priceless objects he can scoop up and spirit off for profit and fame... technically still in progress.
Step Four, get back out of Mariejois.
That last one’s somehow become the hardest part of his plan, way more than Shanks expected when he came up with it. And not because of security or anything - sure, this place is surrounded with serious defenses, but meant to keep attackers out rather than thieves in. A little bit of sneaking here, some impersonating there, and Shanks will be out with none the wiser, free to slip away to the little boat he hid at the base of the Red Line a month ago. See, he didn’t just jump into this headfirst, he planned, he laid out possibilities and contingencies and all the shit that would make Rayleigh proud even as Roger groaned about too much talking getting in the way of just going-
Shanks shuts that line of thought down fast.

Summary
Every scowl and irritated twitch from Garling served as a balm to Dragon’s strained nerves; more than that, as the man’s focus tracked Luffy, it gave Dragon a chance to take advantage of the growing storm outside. To use every crack of thunder, a split second here, a brief moment there, to concentrate sharp jabs of haki, and slowly weaken the chains attached to his shackles.
Too slow, perhaps.
