Maybe it would be completely empty, maybe there would be some hospital staff coming down with equipment, maybe a second shooter was coming to finish the job.
But as the door opened, he saw none of those things.…
After being shot at a hospital, Eddie gets stuck in an elevator with Buck while the building goes on lockdown.

Summary
Another year, another research topic. I've seen a few conversations online regarding Pretty Cure Spirit Animals (or Animal Comparisons, as I call them), but sadly not only did those go nowhere, but the initial posts starting the debates were all deleted! So with a little help from some of the residual Reddit comments, I'm trying to finally answer that question for myself. What animal do I think best represents each Cure and why?

The white hot pain, the darkness threatening to enter his vision. It was all so familiar, that in a weird way, it was almost comforting.
His other hand reached out for the elevator button, pressing it rapidly. He chose to ignore the trail of blood his fingers left behind in the process.

Buck thought he knew what rock bottom felt like already. Between a lightning strike, a belated dead brother acquisition, a thirty-thousand pound vehicle crushing his leg, and a goddamn tsunami, he figured he’s experienced all life has to offer.
Turns out, he’d been achingly wrong.

“What I meant,” Eddie continues, ignoring Buck’s advice, “is that we should take him. Nobody said anything about being a dad, but you know that kid is going to need a guardian. We could take care of him together.”
“What?"
“You say that a lot,” Eddie laughs, making Buck wonder if he’s lost his mind completely. Maybe he should check his temperature again.
“Eddie.”
“Come on. We’ve already raised one kid together,” Eddie says, a fond smile replacing the grimace of pain that has been harboring his face since Buck found him. “What’s another one?”
Another. One. What’s another one. What?Or: it's always when he's bleeding to death that Eddie has his greatest ideas.

‘’And what, tell him that I love him so much it hurts to breathe sometimes but that if I say it out loud the Universe might probably smack him down to teach me a lesson?’’ Eddie says.
‘’Well, you said it out loud right now. And the Universe is pretty much quiet.’’
Eddie looks at her like she doesn’t realize that they’re in the middle of a locked elevator while there is an active shooter outside and a gaping wound in his abdomen.
‘’I think that the gaping hole in my body would beg to differ Henrietta.’’
Hen smirks but then her voice comes out even softer than before. She sees that the radio is still on, whoever was on the other side was still listening.
‘’Was this the first time you said it? Out loud I mean?’’
‘’Yeah. And it figures it’s to you. My big gay guru.’’

Summary
He'd spent so long worrying about Theo being too much for Eddie to handle, the familiar type of worry that Buck livid with in himself daily… He hadn't prepared for how he'll feel when it's not a problem at all. Buck slides his phone out of his pocket, his hands shaking as he takes a photo of the sight. He never wanted to lose this moment.
Buck quickly tried to shove the tears that were beginning to fall down his cheeks away, as Eddie blinked awake.
The feeling almost does Buck under.
OR; Buck has his first shift back at work since taking Theo in his care. Eddie steps up to the 'challenge' to help the man he loves. And just like loving Buck, he finds it's not much of a challenge at all.
