Chapter Text
Rain. Arguably one of the best kinds of weather, not very common in this area though. Tunner loved the rain, it reminded him of his home and his family. The rain had started light but now it was pouring hard enough to have soaked through his serape completely.
Tunner scratched vaguely at a scab on his arm trying to plan the upcoming interaction out step for step. The church loomed large above him, intimidating and elegant. The person inside equally intimidating, yet undeniably intriguing. Tunner tried to come up with the nerve to knock on the door, but he just couldn’t. Jevin didn’t often appreciate unannounced visitors, but if he could just come up with a good enough reason for visiting, maybe Jevin wouldn’t be annoyed. The problem was coming up with a reason.
The sound of crow calls caught his ear. Despite the rain a group of crows were beginning to congregate outside the church. Clearly they were familiar with it considering how vocal they were being. The doors to the church creaked open and there he stood. Jevin held a bag and a bright blue umbrella. Resting the umbrella on his shoulder he opened the bag and pulled out a handful of rice and scattered it near the group of crows. The crows chattered as they scrounged at the ground for the rice. Jevin eventually sat down on his knees scattering another handful of rice near the crows. Tunner found himself transfixed by the interaction between Jevin and the crows. They were surrounding him, these wild crows were interacting with him as if they had always known him, and he seemed to know each one of them individually. Tunner couldn’t tear his gaze away, it was so interesting to see how close Jevin seemed with these wild birds.
“Good afternoon Tunner.”
Jevin didn’t look up from the crows, but it was clear he was aware of Tunner just standing there. Tunner’s mind blanked momentarily. He desperately tried to come up with something to say, anything to make this situation less awkward.
“Good afternoon Jevin.”
Jevin eventually looked up from the murder of crows surrounding him, his eyes were forest green and seemed to bore into Tunner. They seemed to be trying to dig out his intentions and secrets.
“What brings you all the way out to my home?”
Tunner couldn’t seem to find the words he needed. How was he supposed to put the reason into words? He wanted to say ‘I love you’ but at the moment he couldn’t put it into words.
“I wanted to visit you.” Tunner mumbled.
Jevin tilted his head, his eyes taking on a warmer quality. “Why?”
Tunner wasn’t sure how he should phrase his reasoning. Should he be completely honest, should he just spit it out. What if Jevin found him creepy.
“Te amo, pero no sé cómo te decirlo” Tunner mumbled to himself. He was sure Jevin didn’t speak Spanish, but he didn’t think he could put it into words without throwing up. It was a hopeless endeavor, he’d never be able to tell Jevin. At least maybe he’d be able to spend time with Jevin for a bit.
“I was nearby.” It was a pathetic excuse but Tunner couldn’t think of anything else. Jevin stared at him for a long time, before standing up and slowly taking his hand.
“Te amo también .” Jevin spoke slowly, carefully enunciating each word. Tunner was almost positive he couldn’t possibly have heard what he just heard, but Jevin was holding his hand staring into him with that strange warm quality his eyes held.
“Come inside, I’ll make us some tea.”
Tunner felt a large grin spread across his face. He knew he’d remember the sound of Jevin’s voice saying he loved Tunner until the end of the world.
