Work Text:

Pierce had always heard how others described the beauty of the world’s colors; he used to listen in carefully disguised wonder, longing for the day he’d meet the other half of his soul, the person who’d help him see the beauty of the world's color.

As he grew older, he had started to tune out their words, uninterested in hearing of colors he no longer believed he’d ever see.

He’d felt a brief flicker of hope when he arrived on Earth, wondering if the other half of his soul maybe wasn’t a daemos at all. In the chaos of trying to find Ava after Zex revealed their secret, he had forgotten about soulmates entirely.

Once everything had settled again, he had once more returned to his defeated acceptance of never meeting his soulmate.

Maybe he didn’t have a soulmate, maybe the ache in his chest was purely due to the lack of the bond’s presence.

When he and Noi had decided to stay on Earth full time, he had long since stopped hoping to meet his soulmate.

Following Aphmau around as she introduced them to her village, so many names and faces to remember had been mildly taxing on his social interaction limit, thankfully there was only one person left to meet.

Pierce’s eyes land on a figure nearby, a wolf with an axe raised above his head, split logs in a pile next to him.

“Hey Ein!” Aphmau calls out, the sound of the axe chopping through wood fills the air before the figure shifts, lifting an arm to brush his sweaty hair off his face before he turns to face Aphmau.

“Hey Aph” The wolf replies, his silver eyes flicking over to where Pierce and Noi stand, their eyes meeting for a brief moment.

Suddenly the world explodes into color just as bright and vibrant as it had always been described.

Pierce feels the air pulled from his lungs as he watches the wolf’s eyes widen in shock.

He wants to look around, to see the color he’d only ever heard about, but his eyes are locked onto the wolf, taking in every breathtaking detail.

His dark unruly curls with bright color resting in his fringe, his silver eyes, the freckles scattered across his face like stars, the small scar over the bridge of his nose.

He is absolutely enchanting.

And for the first time in his life, like a lock clicking into place or a puzzle having all its pieces, Pierce’s soul finally feels whole.
