Summary:

“Ein.. honey you’ve rearranged those pillows six times now” Pierce remarks, his voice breaking Ein’s focus on making the perfect pillow nest on the couch.

or; When Aphmau cancels their plans due to the weather, Ein & Pierce decide to build a blanket fort

Notes:

Prompt/s: Huddle For Warmth (Fluffuary Day 2)

Started Writing: 2:01pm on January 3rd
Finished Writing: 4:09pm on January 3rd

I headcanon that Ein would love building blanket forts but hate how tricky they were to put up at times, so he built a wooden frame to hang blankets off of so the whole thing wouldn’t collapse at the slightest movement

I also headcanon that Daemos are cat-adjacent, they have some cat behaviors.. I don’t make the rules I just find it silly

Work Text:

When Aphmau had texted the group chat to cancel their plans for the day due to how miserable the weather had ended up being, Ein had been a little upset.

He had always enjoyed the time he spent outside in winter, the frosty chill on his skin and the bite of icy air in his lungs grounding him far better than any breathing technique he had tried, much to Dr. Gold’s dismay.

Something about the long term aftereffects of hypothermia.. He didn’t really remember the full conversation. He did, however, remember the very pretty snow owl he had spotted in the tree outside.

Ein had decided to use his free time to build a blanket fort and naturally he had roped Pierce into it.

“Ein.. honey you’ve rearranged those pillows six times now” Pierce remarks, his voice breaking Ein’s focus on making the perfect pillow nest on the couch.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect, it’ll be ruined the moment we lay down regardless” He continues as he shifts the blanket he had been hanging on the blanket fort frame to cover a bit more of the open space.

“I know, I know” Ein grumbles, leaving the pillows exactly where they are to instead grab another blanket, hanging it over the side of the frame to close the last open space not facing the TV.

“Are you sulking because we can’t go outside today?” Pierce asks, his tone slightly teasing.

“I’m ‘sulking’” Ein huffs in fond annoyance, putting air quotes around sulking, “Because I can’t throw snowballs at Ro’meave today”

“You really adore tormenting the poor man” Pierce chuckles and Ein can practically hear the fond eye roll.

“It’s not my fault he’s so easy to ragebait” Ein shrugs with a small laugh

“You are a menace my love” Pierce comments, ruffling Ein’s hair, much to his exasperation.

“You say as though you aren’t my partner in crime” Ein retorts, half heartedly glaring at his boyfriend.

Pierce smiles, his eyes filled with fondness as he moves closer to Ein, pressing a kiss to Ein’s cheek.

Ein’s slight annoyance melts away at the easy display of affection, turning slightly to press a kiss to Pierce’s cheek.

His ear twitches at the familiar sound of the tumble dryer finishing its cycle.

“Finally” he mumbles, a bright smile creeping onto his face.

“What are you planning..” Pierce asks warily, sounding slightly concerned.

“I’m planning for you to sit on the couch and get whatever we’re watching set up, while I go grab that blanket from the tumble dryer” Ein replies, already walking towards the laundry room.

“We already have all the blankets in the house..” Pierce mutters, clearly not aware of the bliss that is a freshly tumble dried blanket. Well Ein would be fixing that in a moment.

He pulls the soft fabric from the dryer, already smiling at the warmth. He returns to the movie room, seeing Pierce already on the couch waiting for him.

He carefully enters the fort, careful not to accidentally disturb any of the blankets on the frame before dropping onto the couch next to Pierce. He flicks the blanket out, only mildly frustrated when it doesn’t fully uncurl.

He shifts to lay down next to Pierce, dropping the blanket over their shoulders and nuzzling into the warmth, shifting slightly to straighten the blanket.

“I understand now, why don’t we do this more often?” Pierce mutters as he reaches for the remote.

“Because if you overdo it, it isn’t as nice” Ein replies, a little content smile growing on his face as a familiar rumbling purr fills the air.

“And you still claim you’re not like a cat at all” Ein teases lightly, giggling at Pierce’s slight flush.
