Work Text:

Underneath the orbs scattered around the sky like forgotten dreams, flickering softly in hopes of engraving themselves in someone's mind, two lovers sat in silence. Draped around their shoulders were long scraps of fabric, tied snugly around their waists as makeshift tunics, though small parchments of skin were still exposed to the cool night air.

Elder Faerie reached over to the small, porcelain goblet he'd always use, pouring a generous amount of red liquor in it. The liquid pooled shyly at the bottom of the glass, looking back up at his sharp features. He raised the glass to his lips, plush flesh meeting the cold, smooth surface as it dribbled down his chin. Silent Salts eyes rove over his face and lean figure; reddened cheek propped up on his palm. He leaned in, wiping the mans chin with a calloused thumb and whispering in his ear:

"You're awfully clumsy for a Faerie. I thought you were meant to be wise, but look at you. You're chugging wine like it's a sport."

Silent Salt always managed to find humor in the most mundane situations. It was something the Fae both cherished and left him exasperated. Despite himself, a slow smirk curled on his face.

"Charming as ever, are you? Even after all this chaos around you...”

Silent Salt’s smile narrowed.

"Well, one of us has to see the bright side of things." He paused, then reached out to run his hands through the Fae’s hair roughly, silky strands of silver sticking up in different directions.

"You old man."

Elder Faerie huffed, not in frustration, but more in reluctant fondness. It wasn't everyday that he dropped his stoic persona around others, but there was something disarming in the spark of those purple pupils that made his heartbeat quicken. How could he resist such a handsome smile? The sight alone made his expression soften, his voice dropping to a tender whisper, alas a little hoarse from the alcohol.

“I know.” He said simply, considering his next words carefully. “May I ask something of you?”

Silent Salt swallowed the alcohol, his Adams apple bobbing with the motion. He eyed the man from the side: a gesture that meant he had his attention.

“There isn't anything I can do to make you change your mind about the plan, is there?"

Silent Salt didn't answer. In fact, the answer to that question was obvious to him: there was no stopping him from going through with sealing himself and his former peeps in the tree. In his mind, all the pain caused by the diminishing of the Beasts’ virtues was his fault. Carved in his consciousness, the guilt wouldn't go away until he perished those excuses of 'heroes'. Just the thought of their pathetic outcomes made his fists clench tightly.

Elder Faerie didn’t fail to notice the faint frustration bubbling inside him, his hand landing gently on his shoulder, tracing his collarbone.

“Don't think such thoughts. Not with me, please.”

The words were spoken softly yet sternly, a tone that was unmistakably *him*. He’d heard it so many times before, after all; words of reassurance whispered in that same tonality, soothing his weary mind, bringing him pleasure. His tense muscles relaxed instantly under his touch, a soft sigh escaping his temple.

“Even if you won't be here, I’ll still remember you.” Elder Faerie murmured in his ear, his voice coming out as a hoarse hum. “So, let's make most of this moment.”

Despite his usual skittishness, Silent Salt was usually opposed to sentimental exchanges, even between him and his lover. Yet, under the warm light of the candles burning tip, he found his resilience quivering. He tilted his head towards the man, the glint in his eyes catching his.

And, to his surprise, he leaned in closer still, closing the distance between the two. Elder Faerie stilled for a moment, already feeling a cloud of scattered thoughts soaking up his brain. Then, his eyes fluttered shut, his body melting in the embrace.

The flame between them flickered, trembling, and the moon looked away.

(the oxford coma is a very sensitive topic for me_elder faerie is comaing rn get it lmfao)

It didn't take long for Elder Faeries hand to find a spot on the other mans shoulder, steadying him with a firm grip, his other arm snaking around his waist. Their framed slid against one another, their limbs tangling in an intimate dance as the tension around them dissolved into a lingering scent of musk and sweat.

They've done this numerous times before, each encounter more passionate than the last. Their tongues glid against each other, slobber and heat connecting their temples. As soon as the knotted fabric faltered under the Faeries touch, as soon as his fingertips brushed against the others frame, the night had officially begun.
