Creeper Things

Summary:

About thirty years after the events of Stranger Things, the Hopkins kids are all grown up with careers, relationships, and children of their own. While they have all moved out of Hopkins to pursue their interests, they still keep in touch online and meet via Skype. Their children all play Minecraft together, working as a team to battle monsters and hoping to one day defeat the Ender Dragon.

When Mike and Will’s son disappears during a nightly stroll with his eyes glued to his phone, they all reunite to find him.

Almost three decades have passed since the near-apocalyptic event in Indiana, so none of the adults think that the dangerous world that they gave everything to close off is once again connected to our world, just on the other side of a new wormhole…

Crackle…crackle…

BOOM!

Blocks disappear in a cloud of smoke as Jake barely dodges the blast.

“A creeper!” Lila shouts.

“There are more coming!” Sarah points out.

Notes:

Era 2015

Unlike the Duffer Brothers, I will fact-check and make sure all items/blocks/mobs/updates are of that period. Please hold me to that.

I'm using my previous S5 fix-it work: End of Beginning as the lore (basically Will is Vecna's son and still has powers after Vecna's death (but he did lose his left arm and eye), Owens took care of the mothers (relevant for this fic), Max woke up blind from her coma, El is alive and well, I think those are the major things but feel free to read that work if interested:)

Automated Server Message: Welcome to CreeperThings!

Good luck! You'll need it...

“Something’s coming…something hiding in the shadows.”

The moonlit landscape is hard to see in the darkness of the night. Their surroundings are more shadow than light.

The players turn around, searching for any signs of danger.

“It’s almost here.”

The moans and gurgles increase in volume, causing each player's skin to raise in goosebumps.

“What is it?!”

“What if it’s a zombie?”

“What if it’s a creeper?! Aw, Jesus! We’re so screwed if it’s a creeper.” Eddie holds up his shield, swiveling around, ready for an explosion.

“It’s not a creeper! It’s probably just an enderman. Keep your eyes down!” Kate instructs, pushing the right stick of her Xbox One controller to look at the grass beneath her.

Thwick! Thwick! Thwick!

Arrows splinter the field as a white mass of bones approaches.

“Skeletons?!” Lila shouts.

“Told you it wasn’t a creeper!” Kate states, hiding behind a tree.

“Wait a minute…do you hear that? That…that sound…” Jake turns around.

Crackle…crackle…

BOOM!

Blocks disappear in a cloud of smoke as Jake barely dodges the blast.

“A creeper!” Lila shouts.

“There are more coming!” Sarah points out.

“We’re in deep shit!” Eddie cries, running in the opposite direction of the green mobs.

“Jake, throw your firework rocket!” Kate shouts.

“AHHHH!” Jake cries, brain frozen in fear.

“Or your splash potion of harming!” Lila suggests.

“AHHH!” Jake still shrieks.

“Or run!” Eddie shouts.

“AHHHHHHHHH!”

The creeper gets too close. It charges up and EXPLODES!

"You Died" screen

“Dude, you blew it.”

“And it blew you up.”

“Jake, time for dinner!” Mike shouts from upstairs.

“I'M COMING!!! Ugh. Guys, I have to go.” Jake says through his headset. “But the family reunion is coming up, so we’ll get to see each other again in person soon, right?”

“Yeah dude, see you then.”

“Bye!”

“Bye!”

Jake takes off his headset and stomps upstairs. “Stupid creepers.” He mumbles under his breath.

“Jake! Nice to finally see you today. Want some pizza?” Will offers, holding it up with his mechanical prosthetic arm.

“Actually…I’m not that hungry right now. I was thinking of taking a quick walk outside? I need to clear my mind. I died. Again.”

“Oh, I know the feeling.” Will laughs. “Sometimes games don’t always go the way you want them to.”

“And that’s not just in games.” Mike adds.

“Be back before eight, okay?” Will kisses his son on the head before he heads out the door, already reaching into his pocket to take his phone out.

Mike sighs. “Remember the good ol’ days when we had nothing but books and dice to fuel our imagination?”

Will smiles at the memories. “Those days are long gone.”

“Hah! Take that, stupid creepers!” Jake mutters as he kills swarms of them in Creative Mode. He walks, head down, eyes glued to his phone, block after block. “Can’t creep up on me when I’m flying!”

He hears something behind him and turns around. Nothing is there. He turns forward again to keep walking, but then he spots a shadow.

It moves closer to him.

“S-stay back!” He cries out, taking a step backwards himself.

The figure steps under a street lamp, and as Jake lifts his eyes to meet its gaze, everything goes dark as his phone cracks on the pavement…

Notes:

Jake is my self-insert I was much more of a builder than a fighter, and very much a wimp when playing.
