When Reed woke up shivering, he worried that he’d caught the flu that had been going around. Johnny had already been sick for two days.
But… no. It was actually cold in the room.
Reed sat silently in the dark before a scream pierced the air. It was his wife. His heavily pregnant wife, who was not in bed with him. But where she was she? Sue’s voice sounded far away.
After the light switch near his bed failed, he reached across the room and tried another one. Nope. Still dark.
Another scream. “REED!”
Now Sue was calling for him. It must be urgent. He reached into the drawer and pulled out a flashlight. Of course, it didn’t work. And of course, he even tried slapping it and shaking it.
“REEED!”
Three e’s. It was getting more serious. Reed really hoped that she hadn’t gone into labor. Shivering so hard he could barely walk straight, he stumbled into the hallway, feeling for the light switch and flipping it to no avail. Sue’s screams lulled. Then, Reed heard some movement further down the hall.
Sue’s downstairs, and it doesn’t sound heavy enough to be Ben. So it must be…
“Johnny? You’re up?”
No response.
“If you’re feeling up to it, I could really use some light…”
Downstairs, Sue had started groaning.
“REEEED!”
Of course, Reed could handle a nighttime walk down the stairs in his own home. But if Sue’s hurt, I’d like to be able to see what’s going on.
After hearing some disgusting bathroom noises that indicated Johnny was still very much sick, Reed sighed and decided to make his way downstairs. Unfortunately, he tripped over HERBIE and tumbled down the steps, knocking himself out. Sue continued to groan and call for Reed. But he never got to her.
