Summary
A week ago, he’d had his toes buried deep in the sand, at some beach ten minutes from his apartment in Virginia. Sometimes, he’d stood there long enough that he was ready for the sea to open up and consume him whole, just like the way it gently erased the footprints in the sand. Mike wondered if his friends from Hawkins had ever visited any beaches. Mike wondered if Will had seen any beaches. They hadn’t spoken in years, really, not since freshman year of college. He’d seen Lucas over the summer, usually with Max in tow, but Dustin was off interning somewhere all the time, and Will? Will never came back to Hawkins. And to be fair, Mike wouldn’t have either, if not for his ridiculous homesickness for a place he’d never loved.
Now, his arms ached from driving so long, and his head hurt from the radio that he chose to blast as he careened across the country in his little rented movers’ van, and all he wanted, really, was a drink.Mike meets a stranger in a bar, and he thinks something is familiar about him. Maybe he's just desperate for friends, but something about the guy (who's very pretty and oozes confidence) reminds him of a friend he had years ago.
