    Summary

    London, 1885.

The city is experiencing an alarming rise in cases of harassment against women, while the police seem overwhelmed. George Harold Harrison French, a respected young earl from high society, reads the news and dares to express his concern at a gathering of nobles, but is silenced: it is not an “appropriate” topic. Although he wants to help, he knows that doing so would tarnish his reputation.

George, 25, leads a seemingly stable life and is engaged to Pattie Boyd, a beautiful and delicate young woman. However, the calm is shattered when obsessive letters and increasingly disturbing bouquets of flowers begin to arrive. Some letters contain blood, strange smells, and, finally, photographs that prove someone is watching him closely. Fear consumes him, but he hides the truth from his fiancée, who also begins to fear.

Meanwhile, in another part of London, a man writes passionate verses by candlelight. Richard Starkey, a solitary and troubled baron, gazes at a photograph of George with morbid devotion. For him, love has crossed the line and transformed into obsession.

When love is corrupted, terror is born.
