Notes:

Happy to say I have been promoted from writing in the Notes App to Google Docs, Whoo hoo!
Something I sorta had an idea for. Kinda short, sorry about that. I will try to add more chapters!

Also Title may change once or a couple of times, still working on that one.

Chapter Text

He’s been fighting for as long as he can remeber. The doctor’s relentless. As the years have gone by, the only thing that changed was how upgraded his machines became. But Sonic and his team had grown over the years aswell. Yet, as the Blue Blur sped ahead of his comrades, Tails felt as if he always lagged behind.

Tails’ Miles Electric had been off lately. Being slightly off with coordinates, data, and it was messing him up. How can he be any use for his team when a very crucial and important item was acting up? During yet another battle, he froze in a high-pressure situation. Froze right when Amy needed him. She had been surrounded by some of the doctor's larger bunch. He froze waiting for his technology to give him a logical solution rather than acting on instinct, which caused a disaster one second away from happening if Knuckles hadn’t stepped in.

.

.

Sonic wiped some blood off his nose, staining his white glove. “Well..that was a little more intense than usual!” It seems like Eggman cranked up new features on his robot minions. Tails nodded but his mind was far off somewhere else.

.

.

“Hello, Mobius to Tails?” A voice cut into his thoughts. Purple eyes were staring intently at him, “O..oh, yeah?” Tails focused back into reality, his face burned slightly. “I need to go back to Angel Island as soon as possible. Rouge has been a little more sneaky lately, can't take any risks. ” “Want me to give you a ride?” Tails offered. Already adjusting his goggles on his head. After a moment of hesitation, Knuckles agreed.

After he dropped Knuckles off, he returned to an empty house.

Even after a battle you’d think Sonic would be tired. But he’s probably somewhere out there eating a chili dog or running.

He sighed as he picked up The Miles Electric, which felt heavy in his hand, Tails sat down at his desk and fiddled with it. His ear twitched as he heard a screeching sound and his door opened. A gust of wind blew into his workshop. “Hey, Tails! What’cha doing?” Sonic greeted the kit. “Hey Sonic, nothing much..” his voice cracked slightly. The speedster’s eyes narrowed slightly and the fox could practically feel his hand touch over his shoulder before it even reached it. “You doing okay?”

Tails could feel his face warm up. The last thing the fox needed right now was Sonic worrying about him. No he wasn’t really doing okay. He felt like a disappointment actually. But Tails didn’t say that. “Yeah, I'm fine.” He changed the subject. “Where’ve you been?”

“Quick visit at Amys, bandaged up her arm. She got a harsh burn on her arm but I think she’ll be okay.”

“Oh,” the kit's ears lowered slightly, “that's good.” Now he was more determined than ever to figure out what was wrong with his device.

Hours later, his eyes grew tired from the blinking of the cyan light coming from the green bulb connected to his device. If it weren’t for his stubbornness he’d be in bed right now. Instead he was running on coffee and listening for footsteps. Apparently coffee is bad for 12 year olds. If Sonic caught him at this late hour he’d probably ban him from coffee or something. He stopped really paying attention to warnings about coffee. It tasted good, kept his mind awake, he didn’t see any major flaws.

That was until his brain blanked out and his vision literally blurred. I guess that's my sign to go to bed, Tails thought with a heavy sigh. Plus if he looked at that piece of metal for any longer he might throw it in a ditch.

He looked up at the plain white ceiling, thinking way too hard. The fox closed his eyes, attempting to sleep before he spiraled into his thoughts. The moonlight shone in through the curtain he had forgotten to close. The fox was mainly the tech and support guy. And he couldn’t always carry a wrench and tool and rely on that in battle. He lacked physical strength and he knew it. Tails hated that about himself.

What was he even for, anymore?

Once, he had been the brains behind their team who calculated every plan and guaranteed success with his gadgets. Now, every invention felt outdated before it was finished. Every plan felt redundant when Sonic just ran faster. Sure, none of his friends hinted or said anything at all. But he just felt like they knew it deep down.

He remembered his first flight, how the wind had roared in his ears, how the ground had fallen away, how free he’d felt as Sonic stood on the wing.  Now, flying feels like duty. Something to convince himself he can still offer support.

Its really not fair. Its not fair his friends get to have cool powers and strengths and he was stuck with two tails and a flight ability. The hedehogs words echoed in his ears, “Being able to fly is awesome, dude!”

Not as awesome as being able to run as fast as the wind. And definitely not as awesome as being able to punch through rock and metal as if it were no big deal. If he had the physical strength to carry a large hammer he would too

..

..oh
, He spiraled.
