Work Text:

"You can't teach our son to fly the Falcon! He’s only five years old!"

When Leia exclaims, she really exclaims.

No one can be as indignant as Leia. She waves her hands and points her finger at him. The green and gold fabric of her sleeves flutters. Her braids bounce up and down.

Han rolls his eyes and sighs. Ben rolls his eyes and sighs too. Han stretches his legs and crosses them on the caf table. And so does Ben. Or at least he tries to. But his legs are still too short and he can't reach. So he crosses them on the sofa. With his shoes and everything. He's just a Solo. The spitting image of him. How wonderful, the pride beating in his chest.

"Just look at them! Two perfect accomplices in mischief!" insists Leia.

Han replies with a bored look. "I was already flying Solo at that age." A great joke. He wonders if she got it. To be honest, at five years old, he wasn't a Solo yet. But there was probably already a Solo lurking in his soul, ready to come out. Ben is lucky. He was born a Solo. And he will be a Solo forever.

"And we've seen the results!" Leia shouts.

"Oh, no, we haven't!" Han retorts.

"No, we haven't!" Ben replies.

"The result is that you have the best pilot in the galaxy in front of you, sweetheart. Not to mention the most amazing man who ever left Corellia to conquer the universe."

"No way." Leia shakes her head, hands on her hips. "Keep Ben away from the Falcon's pilot's seat, and I don't want to have to repeat myself."

Then she turns on her heel and leaves them there to brood.

"Now what?" Ben asks, his eyes hoping for a miracle.

"You heard her. She doesn't want to repeat herself. No Falcon pilot's seat." Han winks at him. Some things just have to be taken literally.

The ship isn't as beautiful as the Falcon, it isn't as fast as the Falcon, and it isn't the Falcon. But it's one of the fastest in the hangar. It's Corellian. And it has, more or less, the same characteristics as the Falcon.

Han adjusts Ben's seatbelts, moves the seat forward so he can reach the controls, and looks into his sparkling eyes.

"Now fly it, Ben."

"Are you sure Mum won't get angry?" Ben asks, still a little hesitant. But Han knows. He knows he can't wait. The Solos are made for flying.

"Of course she will." Han stretches and puts his hands behind his head. The real fun is about to begin. "But she said to stay away from the Falcon's cockpit. Does this look like the Falcon to you?"

Ben snorts. "Not at all." Then he starts the engines. And the sky opens up before them.
