Fraternizing with the Yakuza can get you hurt real bad. Rin, for instance, during her ‘date Iwai and make Sojiro upset’ arc, wanders into the thug’s kitchen in the dead of night, looking for coke. Since Iwai possesses a cat, this is a bad idea because she arrogantly walks around in the dark. At most she uses her phone to see where the heck she's going, but she aims it high, and so she is not at all expecting to step on glass, but step on it she does, the pain freezing her vocal cords, her eyes flinging open, the world turning white for an instant. Not the worst pain though, not the worst, and only physical.
“Ergh!” She makes a low sound of distress, aiming her phone down, its soulless light revealing a wave of red surging around tiny glass islands littering a linoleum floor. This is what you get, she thinks, for messing about. However, if she'd injured herself in Leblanc in this way she'd attempt to hide it from the local barista, lest he condemn her for foolishness. The local gangster is not so heartless. Iwai sleeps lightly so she sends him a text and gives him a missed call.
“What have you done?” When he arrives he turns on the light, and bursts into laughter. “Why are you standing there like you're stranded? You're the Phantom Thief. Can't you leap away?”
“There's glass everywhere!”
“And? You're not gonna cut an artery…eh, show me.”
Rin leans on a chair and lifts her stricken foot. It really is quite bad, pierced with glass from big toe to heel. Getting down on his knees, Iwai picks out the largest pieces. For the rest he'll pick her up, take her away, and get the tweezers out.
“Weirdo...” he says.
