Chapter Text
Pomni slowly opened her eyes, the bright lights in the room blinding her for a moment, she put her hand in front of her face to block some of it, and was shocked to see not her animated glove, but her hand, her real hand.
She wasn’t in the circus anymore. She was free.
Pomni stood up abruptly coming into the realization of this statement. She was free. Along with the other-
Wait, where is everyone, she looked around in confusion, they all left at the same time when Jax pressed that button. Weren’t they supposed to be here? She looked more carefully at her surroundings and set her eyes on the computer and VR set that were the culprits of her imprisonment. Wait this can’t be. Pomni was still at the same abandoned building she was exploring all those years ago. She was sure someone would’ve found her by now, I mean it’s not like this was an unpopular spot for exploring.
Pomni slowly made her way out of the building, constantly looking over her shoulder, she didn’t know why though, she felt like at any moment Caine would pop out of nowhere and take her back to that digital hell.
As she walked she made theories in her head. If she was still at the same spot she was before entering the circus, the others where probably at the places where they entered the digital circus, or maybe they had people that cared enough about them to notice they were missing and promptly looked for them
It’s not like Pom-
Oh my God
All along she had been referring to herself with the stupid name Caine had given her.
June
Her name was June.
June made a point to repeat her name over and over again in her head, she was not forgetting it again, she would not let anyone make her loose her sense of self ever again.
June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June June….
Without realizing it she had made her way to her apartment. She checked her pockets and there they were, her keys. She took them out slowly and put them in her keyhole and turned it until she heard a click.
She stood put in her doorway.
Her apartment was dark and cold. It didn’t look like home.
June slowly made her way inside, turning on the light one by one, making sure not to leave any dark corner in her apartment.
She realized she didn’t know what to do, should she call anyone? The police? Her parents..? No. The police wouldn’t believe her, and her parents… well, there was a reason she moved out at soon as she turned eighteen.
Just then she felt a bump in the pocket of her jeans. It was her phone. Huh. She unlocked it and her finger froze midair, still unsure what to do, that’s when she saw today’s date.
January 6th.
She went out exploring on January 5th.
She had been in the digital circus for a total of approximately 15 hours.
What. The. FUCK.
