Work Text:
In your humble opinion, there was simply nothing better than a lazy morning spent in bed relaxing as the sun streamed in through the windows and the birds chirped outside. Especially when that morning was spent with your fiance, who had nowhere to be until late afternoon, so you could hold him hostage in your shared bed for as long as you wanted. Ijichi, of course, wasn’t about to complain about that. A morning spent with you rather than taking ‘light hearted’ abuse from his coworkers and disrespect from the students of Jujutsu Tech was a morning more than well spent. You stretched out languidly, draping yourself half way across his body. It was cold outside, you could tell from the way frost had crawled its way along the frame of your bedroom window, but it was warm wrapped up in the sheets together.
“What if we just say here all day?” You asked softly, pressing a gentle kiss to Ijichi’s jaw, just to see the way he lightly flushed in response, as if he wasn’t entirely nude beside you after last night’s activites. It was precious to you, how after so long of being together it was still so easy to fluster him and make him shy, as if you weren’t engaged to be married.
“As much as I’d love to do that, you know I have work this afternoon. I have to drive the students somewhere.” He replied, and you sighed. You knew that, he was right, but that didn’t mean you wanted him to go. You had a rare day off at home, and you knew you should just be grateful to have the morning together.. but you were greedy.
“Which ones?” Came your next question, purely out of curiosity.
“Itadori. He’s still working independently right now.” It wasn’t really something you were supposed to know, but then you weren’t supposed to know about sorcerers and cursed spirits either. Ijichi was a horrible liar.
“So you’ll be seeing your precious Nanami as well?” You teased, trailing a finger over his cheekbone, following along with the spread of his blush higher up and to the tips of his ears.
“I do wish you wouldn’t call him that.”
“Because I’m right?”
Laughter together came easily. The two of you had known each other for a long time now, and there was nothing you couldn’t laugh at - including his persistent little man crush on Nanami Kento, who’d been his senior when he’d attended Jujutsu Tech for himself. Though, he’d been a very different man back then, or so you’d been told. Nanami occasionally came over for dinner, because you insisted, and it was nice to help him out when he was clearly so overworked. He always brought dessert, like a good guest.
“You do know that you’re far more precious to me, don’t you?” Ijichi asked after a moment, and you couldn’t help the instinct to press yourself up onto your elbow so you could look him in the face as you replied.
“Of course I do. You’ve made that more than clear since the day we first met,” you assured him, leaning in to share a sweet and gentle kiss, “I just like to tease.”
“I have noticed.” Came his dry response, and then the laughter began all over again.
When you padded through to the kitchen reluctantly, Ijichi not far behind, you could feel the season all around you. The lights strung across the room, the garland wrapped around the stupid pillar in the living room that you direly wanted to get rid of but it was ‘weight bearing’, the small tree set on the dresser because you didn’t quite have space for a full size tree. It was perfect because it was what you were able to put together yourselves, just the two of you.
You collected several slices of bread to start toasting them, Ijichi’s shirt draped over your body lazily. It hardly covered your ass, but you found that he certainly wasn’t complaining about that. When he joined you in the kitchen, he wrapped his arms around your waist and rested his chin on your shoulder, even though he had to bend slightly to do it. It was easy to lean back into his arms, to take the pleasure of being in his arms so freely, the comfort that came with the scent of his cologne and his warm palms against your thighs.
“I was looking for this shirt.” He mumbled after a moment, making you huff a soft laugh.
“Well, now you’ve found it.” You replied, lifting your hand to gently comb your fingers through his hair. He couldn’t argue with that, and he wouldn’t want to. Why waste time arguing about anything when he could just bask in the presence of you instead? It was just a shirt.
Breakfast was a quiet affair, sitting on the sofa with the seasonal fleece blanket pulled over you both, legs tangled together in a way that wasn’t even particularly comfortable and yet you refused to move. Seasonal music played on the TV quietly, adding to the gentle atmosphere.
“You know, I think you should invite Itadori for one of our dinners some time.” You decided after a moment, lifting your eyes from your toast to Ijichi.
“Itadori? Why?”
“Because you’re fond of him, and don’t try to tell me that you’re not. You wouldn’t take it well if he truly died for good, I know that you know that. And that’s as much about it being your responsibility to keep him safe as it is about your personal feelings on the kid.” You said with a raised brow and a small amused quirk of your lips.
“I suppose you’re right. I’ll pass the invitation on later today if you pick a date.”
“I’ll wait to host something until after the Good Will event, something tells me he’ll need it after that.” You said, turning your attention back to your breakfast.
“I think you might be right, dear.”
