Being marry to “The Mastermind” is not easy

Summary:

They’re very annoying survivors to deal with, like Lara Croft with her finesse, Feng Min rushing generators, David King, etc… They all have something that makes trials irksome, but one that most killers prefer to avoid is Leon S. Kennedy.

Since he appeared in the fog that man became a menace; from the first trial he understood what was going on and did his best. Very tryhard in the beginning, however as the time passed by he turned into one of the best teammates you could ever ask for. He always went for the save, he always did the exposed and unsafe generators so the rest wouldn’t; took the chases and dropped his characteristic flash bangs to slip away or protect the others.

He’s just so good everyone was surprised when they learned that Leon has been married for 2 years, meaning he got to the altar at 21 years old. Unfortunately they didn’t get to spend too much time together as the Raccoon city outbreak happened and the fog took him.

What nobody excepted is that he was married to “The Mastermind”, aka Albert Wesker.

And oh, their relationship was a total mess left with unresolved issues.

Notes:

This is an AU where Leon and Albert met before RE2 and started dating to just get married when Leon was 21 years old. Then Wesker left him to continue his plan. Leon searched for him during months before getting stuck during the Raccoon City outbreak and getting into the fog.

Wesker and Leon’s relationship is complicated in this AU but they love each other. I wanted to expand more in their relationship and add more moments but I was also tired of writing and I’m just a mess with this AUs because I have so many ideas but u can’t just put them into words. Ahhhhh.

Anyways, there’s one sided relationship between Leon and Ghostface and other non mention killers just because they flirt with him during trials but like, Leon’s not interested.

Also I’m putting the “Possibly OOC” because I’m not sure if I get the personalities of the killers correct. I love playing the video game and all and I have read lots of fanfics but gosh, idkkkk.

Enjoy before I lose my mind.

Work Text:

He just fights back and is persistent, great attributes that compliment his silly charismatic personality and good looks. A “pretty boy” indeed.

At least a part of the killers save him for last or just straight up give up the chase when they aren’t in the mood, although the more inhuman ones don’t care who it is, they just wanna end it quickly so the entity rewards them.

Funnily enough there’s also the desperate to get laid idiots, who would flirt with Leon in mid trial, losing potential time and gaining only a scoff from the agent. It even came to a point where Leon would constantly show them his hand that has a ring on it, and it isn’t just decoration, it’s a wedding ring. Killers like “The Trickster” and “Ghostface” couldn’t care less as morals here aren’t applied, so they keep trying.

Everyone was surprised when they learned that Leon has been married for 2 years, meaning he got to the altar at 21 years old. Unfortunately they didn’t get to spend too much time together as the Raccoon city outbreak happened and the fog took him.

“It was my idea.” Leon admitted that his lover didn’t really care about marriage or putting a more serious title to their relationship.

They also learned that he was married to a guy named “Albert Wesker”, the ex-captain of S.T.A.R.S, and let’s just say that Jill and Chris didn’t take this well. They weren’t aware that his captain was either married or that he was even capable of feeling “love”. Oh, and obviously they told Leon the truth about Wesker and everything he did. Leon just gave a bittersweet smile, not surprised about it, but rather disappointed

Leon was a complete box of surprises, and no one understands how he has kept his attitude and corny liners after everything he has been through. They all come from different universes and timelines, some having it worse than others in their past realities.

Time is confusing in the fog, they just know that every now and then a new survivor would appear and along with a killer.

When Ada and Rebecca entered and coincidentally in the same campfire as Leon everything changed.

The ones from their reality knew that they weren’t alone, so they were just waiting to see what monstrosity from their world entered this hell.

“So, The Mastermind?” Ghostface nodded as Ji-Woon Hak asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Well, it’s a fitting name for him. He’s also got this mutated virus inside him that gives him crazy abilities.”

“Ugh I hope that Blight stays away from him, we don’t need another disgusting feral scientist around here trying to use his serum on everyone.” Ji-Woon frowned slightly while he did his nails. The mere thought of The Blight’s face giving him creeps.

“He’s also from the rookie’s world.” That got Ji-Woon’s attention again.

“You think he might know Leon?” Ghostface shrugged his shoulders.

“That’s why we need to stalk him!” Ghostface got his camera ready, already getting all excited to learn more about the new killer in town.

“You and your stalking tendencies.” Ji-Woon rolled his eyes but he was intrigued by what this guy might bring.

The long-awaited 2v8 came around. During this time only a couple of killers were able to participate. No one knew how the Entity selected them, but they had theories that it was from performance during trials or their methods. The Entity tried to be fair to its fellow survivors so it didn't let some of the “overpower” ones go.

New killers were also not likely to participate and instead watch to learn. This time though, “The Mastermind” was selected for this mode, which raised lots of eyebrows and even received complaints that the Entity gave no mind.

Ghostface got lots of trials with Wesker as he was extremely demanded by the Entity, always going with him three times out of five.

“Damn, you’re really one of the favorites like me, eh?” Ghostface pointed out with his usual tone.

“Well, from what I have come to understand the Entity favors efficiency and style, which I possess both equally, it’s no surprise I’m extremely demanded for this type of trial.” Wesker adjusted his glasses.

The fog wrapped them and transported them into game. “Try to keep up.” Wesker’s voice even if serious had always a slight comical tone as if these were just games for him. Ghostface couldn’t judge as it was also a playground to him, always for the fun rather than the sacrifices.

Ghostface had the luck of finding two survivors already doing gens. He positioned tactically behind a rock, stalking them. Just as he was reaching the maximum amount his cover got exposed, making the survivors run away. He looked backward just to find his favorite target.

“You dirty boy, I almost had them.” Ghostface got up and started chasing Leon, hitting some survivors that got in the way, not caring at all. He just wanted to stab that sweet body and get him to whimper. C’mon, who didn’t like Leon’s sounds?

“You really are obsessed with me, we've been running for a while now, gonna leave your partner to hunt the other one’s?” Leon teased as he threw a pallet in Ghostface’s head, making him get stunned.

“Don’t worry, he’s very capable on his own.” The four generator popped off and Ghostface was still hot on Leon’s trail, or at least he was until he was slammed against a wall by Wesker.

They stayed there for some seconds, staring into each other. Leon’s breath stopped, his eyes widened. “Ghostface, stop wasting time and go and hang the others.” Just like that Danny noticed at least 4 people on the ground around them.

Leon escaped and kept running away. “I’ll take care of this one.” Wesker didn’t waste another second and caught up to Leon just to get smacked by a pallet.

Ghostface was mad that his special time got interrupted rudely by Wesker. “Tch” he chased the survivors trying to heal the wounded ones.

By the end of the trial, almost everyone was dead except for Meg and Leon who each were on dead hook. Wesker took the right decision to order Ghostface to take on the other ones before hooking Leon and starting his massacre again.

“I’ll go and distract them and you go and open the gate. If it doesn’t work I’ll give you the hatch.” Leon was breathing heavily while he cured Meg’s deep wounds.

“Okay.” Leon knew Meg hadn't been having good trials lately, so the least he could do was help her escape at least this one. “Be careful”

“Yeah.” Leon smiled at her before running towards the center.

Wesker heard his footsteps and as fast as the light he was already there standing in front of Leon.

“So we finally see each other again, darling.” Wesker smirked, walking closer to Leon who stood his ground and showed no fear.

“Yeah, I still remember the day you left and I spent my last two months searching for you everywhere!” Leon was pissed and he had all the right to be.

“I told you not to look for me.” Wesker was now inches away from Leon, his smile going down slowly.

“No, you left me a fucking note!” Leon’s voice was trying very hard not to crack but you could feel the rage.

“It was for the best. I couldn’t have you near me.”

“Well that’s not something you decide for me or for both of us.”

“You wouldn’t understand.” Wesker’s tone was still commanding and imposing, but the volume was lower.

“No I do. Wesker, I know what you have done. I know everything, I’m not ignorant nor stupid.” Leon was now poking Wesker’s chest with anger, his teeth pressed tightly, he didn’t want to cry.

“What, Chris told you?” He was upset by not knowing what his ex-employed told Leon.

“No, I always knew, since before we got married.” Leon couldn’t look at Wesker now.

Wesker was left speechless.

Neither of them, or well, Wesker did realized but couldn’t care as Ghostface approached them.

“What? Wait, you two are-“

“Married? Yes. This is my husband, Leon S. Kennedy.” Wesker introduced Leon with this title which only hurt Leon even more.

Ghostface was confused by Leon’s reaction and the whole encounter he had with Wesker. Leon was always reminding him that he was married but seemed so upset when Wesker mentioned it. He also had almost invisible tears running down his cheeks. And for what he heard of the conversation they weren’t on good terms.

The doors were open and Meg had already escaped.

“It’s time for you to go, Leon.” Wesker lifted Leon into his shoulder, carrying him to the exit gate. Leon tried wiggling in protest, trying to say that it was not over yet. “We’ll talk another time. Alone” Wesker put Leon down.

Leon didn’t look back, he couldn’t as he rushed towards the camp fire, his eyes filled with tears.

The world kept collapsing before the fog wrapped around the killers and led them to the waiting area.

Ghostface was still in shock, he told everything to Ji-Woon and updated his board and diaries.

“I still can’t believe how such a narcissist like Wesker got Leon- like, he deserves a lot better!” Danny was rambling.

“Well, he’s better than you.” Ji-Woon laughed as he avoided Danny’s knife lashing at him. “But yeah, he’s such a dickhead.”

“Man, now I wanna know how this will end up. Do you think they will get a divorce?”

“Are there divorces here?” Ji-Woon also wanted to know more about the drama.

Every trial both Leon and Wesker had always ended in Leon being the last person alive before they tried to talk again but Wesker cutting him off or ended in an argument. Leon always escaped, always kept his ring visible. It was a reminder of his actions and his connection to his husband, even if they weren’t on the same page anymore.

Leon at least had his friends to help him and comfort him. Even the killers that found out were more soft on him. He hated it. He hated to feel like that, that everybody treated him differently just for this. He wasn’t weak, he wasn’t fine, yeah, but he could put his and Wesker’s relationship in second place to focus on the trial.

This also got some survivors to avoid Leon or had trust issues due to the fact that he was married to The Mastermind.

Leon needed to settle things with Wesker once in for all. This would only keep haunting him.

The 2v8 ended, finally allowing the killers to get back in the game. Leon saw less Wesker during normal trials but he also needed a break, even if he wanted to talk to Wesker. It was irritating wanting to see Wesker and also wanting to never see him again.

His nightmares also returned. All that happened in Raccoon City and the people he couldn’t save. The people that died because of Wesker. The day he woke up alone in bed and found the note his husband left. The countless sleepless nights trying to localize him, hoping for his safety.

He was hurt. His relationship was complicated just like how he felt about him, but the immense love he felt for Wesker was still there, skinning him alive.

New trial, and as he wasn’t already having a bad time it was in the Raccoon Police Department. He was walking towards the main entrance, those generators were a pain in the back, but they had to be done as soon as possible. He stopped at the west office, looking at where his desk should have been. The “Welcome Leon” sign there as always. The reminder of what he could have had if he entered before, if he hadn’t waited because of Wesker’s request.

“Always wondered why there’s a missing desk there.” A voice behind him startled him. On the stairs was Wesker descending slowly. Leon backed away, almost tripping. “You know I’m not going to hurt you.”

“We’re still on trial.” Wesker never killed him. Yes, he did hurt him during chases and every time he was slammed against smothering because of his inhuman strength, but never once killed him. “And you do hurt me.”

“I want to talk.” Leon relaxed but kept his grip tight to his flashlight.

“Okay, go ahead.”

“I couldn’t stay. I was already too deep into my project and it was highly risky if I didn’t leave that day. You weren’t supposed to be involved in any of this. I wanted to protect you from the virus, the outbreak, everything, even myself. I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with you nor marry you, however I decided to be egoistic for you. I didn’t meant for you to take it personally,”

“Right, because with you it was never personal.” Leon’s sarcastic tone disconcerted Wesker.

“Leon-“ He was interrupted

“Albert.” He hadn’t use that name in so long it felt like a sting. “You don’t understand. You know what it’s like to wake up in an abandoned bed with a note that said that your husband left you? What’s it’s like to search everywhere and end up being surrounded by zombies in a commissary? Not being able to save the people there?” Leon couldn’t hold his tears this time.

“It’s awful and worst knowing that the person you loved the most, the one who promised to be with you, chose to play god before saying goodbye?! The fuck did you think was gonna happen? That I was gonna accept it without fighting for our relationship? Do I really mean so little to you?”

“Leon.” Wesker touched Leon’s cheek just to be revived with a smack.

“I knew who you were. A narcissistic wanna be god that worked for Umbrella. A terrible man who creates the same monsters that haunted me down. But I still chose to ignore everything because for me, you were my world, my universe.” Leon started punching Wesker’s chest. Wesker wouldn’t let anyone do this but he understood Leon’s frustration and let him get rid of it by screaming at him.

“Leon… I have never denied my doings nor my persona and I don’t regret it. However, you are wrong about something.” Leon looked at Wesker, this one taking his glasses off, showing his red eyes, Leon opening his mouth in surprise as his husband no longer had his beautiful blue eyes, but rather this vibrant reddish iris.

“Continue…”

“I have always loved you. To me, you are the only equal I see. You are my muse. You are the only thing that kept me human for years. You made me doubt multiple times about what if I was doing was worth it. You were that constant reminder of my weakness. You held my heart and caressed it more than I expected, more than I knew was possible. I always loved you.”

“You loved me in your own way. But it wasn’t enough Albert. You hurt me. You hurted my friends. You left me to die in that hell while you elevated yourself!”

“I never wished for you to suffer.” Wesker wiped off Leon’s tears that kept coming. His heart sank at seeing Leon so vulnerable and frustrated.

“But you did. You left me to suffer alone.”

“And I realized that I had committed the worst mistake of my life. You were and are my everything Leon. I just didn’t want to admit it, not when I was so close.”

“You are a total douchebag, you know that right?” Leon laughed bitterly. His throat felt like it was closing and it hurt to talk, even breath.

“Yes, I am.” Wesker sighed and took Leon’s hand, moving it towards his chest, where his heart was beating. “Let me say this, not as a god or as an enemy, but as your dear husband.”

Leon didn’t move his hand, scared that if he did he might run away.

“I apologize for leaving you that day. For making you go through hell looking for me. For twisting and ruining your life and making you experience Raccoon City during the outbreak. I shouldn’t have chosen power over you.” Leon’s own heart was accelerating, beating at the same rhythm as Wesker. “I can’t undo the past, however I regret leaving you behind. I regret not showing how much I love you.”

The last generator popped, the gates getting opened. The world started to shake and crack. The familiar orange lights coming from the ground and the sounds getting louder. Neither of them cared.

“If we are gonna be stuck in this hell, I don’t want you to abandon me ever again.” Leon looked serious, his other hand now touching Wesker’s shoulder.

“I promise to never leave you again. I’ll do everything to protect you and get out of here.” Leon laughed at that, he didn’t think it was possible to escape the fog.

“Won’t the Entity punish you for not doing your duty?”

“I could have killed them all, except you to talk, but I wanted you to be willingly having this conversation with me.” Leon couldn’t wait anymore and closed their almost non-existent distance, hugging Wesker’s neck and kissing him. Wesker kissed back.

The time seemed to stop. The sound and chaos around them was freezes, as if the Entity was gifting them this moment.

Wesker lifted Leon, grabbing and hugging his waist, giving him a few turns, making Leon break the kiss and giggle. “You remembered.” Leon loved when Albert lifted him and just held him while doing circles, making him feel dizzy but from the sweetness.

“You begged me to do it almost every day.” Leon couldn’t stop smiling and crying remembering the past, feeling nostalgic.

“And now don’t expect me to stop asking for it.” Wesker gave Leon a few more turns before putting him on the ground, taking his hand with the ring on it and kissing it.

“It’s not fair, I wanna do the same.” Leon tried to pout but failed from his happiness. At that Wesker removed one of his gloves, revealing his own ring. “You still have it…” Leon couldn’t believe it.

“I haven't taken it off since our wedding.” Leon didn’t waste more time and proceeded to do the same and kiss Albert’s ring.

“Does this mean we get to re-do our vows?” Leon seemed excited.

“That’s what you want?” Albert raised his eyebrow, a smirk growing on his face at that request.

“Yes.”

…

Since that day Leon was at his peak. He felt so lightheaded and loved. He felt like a new man and was once again crazy in love with his husband.

Everybody noticed his changed personality. Some of them asking him directly and other spying on the answer.

The trials with Leon were just better as he was more motivated than before, even becoming more vocal with the killers.

“Did you get laid or something?” Susie from the legion asked as Leon kept looping her on the main building. She noticed Leon’s attitude and stupid “in love” expression. Lowkey reminded her of Joey.

“Better!” Leon suddenly grabbed both of her arms and started doing spins with her, she almost dropped her knife but let it happen. She was so confused

“What the hell rookie-“ she became dizzy and Leon let her on the ground while running to the exit gate, but before he requested her to say hi to “The Mastermind”.

“Aw hell nah, I’m not going near that man just to get dissected.” Susie now had an idea of why the mood. They probably made up and were a happily married couple again.

Susie wasn’t the only one that suffered from Leon's new mood. All the killers met this new version of Leon and now were more sure to avoid him at all cost. It was terrifying and unnerving.

Even Ghostface and Ji-Woon were left amused.

“Ghostie!” Leon blew Ghostface’s cover again.

“Ghostie? Are you giving me a nickname?” To say that he was absolutely baffled was an understatement. This was so out of character of Leon. Was this some sort of trap? A doppelgänger? Was this the Entity’s work?

“I’m just so happy and as I know you love gossip I have something new for you!” Okay, Leon knew that side of him. Stalking had a lot to do with gossip also.

“Ain’t no way you melted that psycho’s heart- he apologized?! What kind of dark magic are you using?!” Ghostface was kneeling in the ground besides Leon while he recounted his and Wesker’s story and the interaction they had. “That explains why he’s been in a good mood lately.”

“He is?” Leon was curious.

“Most don’t notice it but if you are like me, you notice even the smallest changes.” He shrugged it. Even if Wesker was more secretive than others, he still saw him around lately instead of his usual realm.

“Oh, I also have something that I've been wanting to give him but I haven't had a single trial with him in forever! Could you give him this for me?” Leon extended a video tape.

“Mmm and what do I revive in exchange?” Ghostface didn’t do things for free.

“A free kill?” Leon asked with his cute face and even if Ghostface wanted to accept he needed to take advantage of this situation.

“Nope, I can have that whenever I want!”

“Mmm not throwing you flashbangs for the next 3 matches?” Tempting, they were getting annoying now that Leon updated the formula.

“How about a kiss?” Leon wanted to punch this guy so bad but played along. After all he didn’t explicitly said where

“Fine.” Ghostface was gonna remove his mask but Leon stopped him and kissed the cheek of his mask. “There, now give this to him. Be careful and do not watch it.” Leon got up and rubbed away from Ghostface.

“Damn sly rookie.” Next time he asked for a favour he would be more descriptive.

“If it’s another try for me to watch those awful scream movies I suggest you get out.” Wesker was in his office as Ghostface extended him a video tape,

“First of all they are classics, and second of all Leon requested for me to give you this.” He left the video tape on the desk and left as he had plans to stalk and gather information about the new killer that arrived not so long ago.

Wesker took it to where there was the computer that allowed video tapes to be inserted.

“How bold of you Leon.” Wesker couldn’t wait to watch the rest of the tape that his lovely husband decided to record for him all alone inside his tent. “Next time we are on trial I won’t let you go so easily.”
