Summary:

Lucy meets Louisa for the first time at her orphanage. She's not too impressed.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

When Lucy first joins the Guild, she’s careful to observe its members, filing away any useful information for later. Whether that be for who she should avoid when angry, which ones can be bribed, or who she needs to take out in an emergency.

And at the very bottom of the list of those to watch out for is a girl around her age, Louisa May Alcott.

They first met when Louisa visited her orphanage, though “meeting” was a strong word for what actually occurred.

The unfortunate girl could barely stammer out her recruitment speech, and Lucy was left rather unimpressed by the whole affair. So she focused on gleaning what she could from Louisa’s appearance instead.

She had to admit, for a young girl who dressed like a grandma, this Louisa was pretty easy on the eyes. Lucy was especially drawn to her beautiful green eyes, unfortunately hidden behind those plain ass glasses. And this is from someone who’s not even interested in people like that in the slightest, but she can appreciate good looks.

It does make her wonder what Louisa’s Gift could be, since every member of this Guild seems to have one. Looking her over, she’s absolutely not a combatant. Lucy’s not so stupid to judge solely on looks but her demeanor is far too sheltered and timid to be a front-line fighter. She’s most likely operational support, or maybe even an enhancement Ability.

In the end, Lucy decides to join up with this Guild. There were several reasons for her decision, most being along the lines of wanting to escape this hellhole of an orphanage and the handsome salary she’ll be making (her eyes nearly bugged out of her head when Louisa showed her all those zeroes).

There’s also the appeal of joining a group that not only saw Gifts as something not cursed or to be punished for but as a good thing. She would never admit to this out loud, but being surrounded by other Ability users — being praised for her Gift — was something right out of a dream.

Then there’s the enigma of Louisa herself. Such a timid, sweet girl is somehow the second-highest-ranked in this entire organization? Her curiosity got the better of her for sure, and she’s slightly less averse to admitting to that.

And if her joining gives her more opportunity to get to know this Louisa better, then she’ll consider that a sign-up bonus.

Notes:

Surprise aroace Lucy!
