rats

Summary:

Santino and Armand get to have a cute bonding moment because there's lots of evidence in the books that Armand doesn't think of Santino as irredeemably evil, and, outside of the wild torture at the beginning, they had a complicated maybe even positive relationship while Armand was still in Rome.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

“Put out your hand.”

A defiant wrinkle formed on Amadeo’s brow before he complied, the stretch of his arm revealing the delicate wrist beneath the cuff of his dirty smock.

Santino scooped a rat from his pocket and placed it on his own palm, extending it until his fingers overlap with Amadeo’s. The rat was still for a long moment before it briefly groomed its nose, sniffed about, and scampered on to Amadeo, nosing at his sleevecuff.

“I can feel her mind, she's curious,” Amadeo pronounced solemnly, but smiled when the rat scurried up his sleeve, shivering with suppressed giggles.

Notes:

idk, Santino is a true believer until he isn't anymore and then very quickly fucks off to a nice palazzo, I wish we got more of his perspective. I think he's a really interesting character. (But everyone in this canon is a tad creepy about Armand's body :D )
