He had to get out of here. He slept for too long, last time, and Sky had tried to leave him, and it was his responsibility to save her mother, to save Thisbe, so he had to wake up and stop her from leaving again.
The dark-eyed woman stopped him before he could properly get to his feet, though even just the attempt had taken him a solid few minutes of trying, he was still so groggy.
"Uh-uh," she said, easing him back down onto the makeshift bed on the floor. It was a lot like the cot he'd slept in as a child, in his little bedroom in Quill, though there was no Aaron across the room, just out of arm's reach. "You need rest. I promise, you're safe here. Back to bed with you."
Lani, Meghan, and Samheed had their "holiday" on Warbler. Aaron had his on the Island of Shipwrecks. Sky had hers six feet under that stupid volcano. Now it's Alex's turn, in a run-down, mostly-abandoned palace, nestled between apple trees and a river. Besides, when the Quillen idea of a "holiday" includes sending children off to their deaths, he feels like this is pretty par for the course.

The dog shifted, then rolled himself onto his back, stretching his legs out. The skin drooped off of his face, revealing his big, wide eyes as he looked up at Aaron. He wagged his tail. Aaron took that as an agreement.
He sighed, hand reaching up to pick at his necklace, starting to run it back and forth across the chain. "It's like… I don't want to not be me. It's just… Is that me really me, you know? Do you ever feel like that?
After the end of the end of the end, and all the secrets that it brought to light, there is one last revelation to be uncovered, and one last puzzle piece to fit into place: Aaron realizes that she is a girl.

“Ayo, Stepdad, this memorial thing fucks severely!” Benji announces enthusiastically. He’s on the edge of the couch, in between Daniel and Armand, eyes glued to the screen in front of them.
“And that’s a good thing, right?” Daniel checks, just to be sure.
“Yeah,” Benji answers distractedly, because the sight of Daniel’s second ex-wife – who hadn’t spoken to Daniel for 20 years when he ‘died’, mind you – weeping over an old photograph of him is just too fascinating. No, wait, fucks too severely to look away from.
In which Daniel and his new family watch Daniel’s memorial service and talk about what (and who) does and doesn’t qualifies as ‘vintage’.

Summary
The fig is tender, and the inside yields easily under his teeth, staining them pink as cold sweetness flows on his tongue. The cracks of the skin bubble and burst under the pressure. His fingers are kind of pink now, and sugary juice seeps down his fingers, sticky, into the sink. Rivulets draw down the metal, into the drain. He swallows.
Thinking about poetry when doing something as simple as eating a fig seems a tad pretentious. Reza does it anyway.

Santino almost flinches back at the suddenness of the movement, but Amadeo falls against Allesandra instead of attacking. Instead of trying to sink his claws or teeth into her, he begins to cry into her chest.
Or, a choice to do nothing is still a choice, and no one chooses to save Amadeo.
