It was going to be new years in a few hours.
New years.
Where they celebrate in entering a new era where they hope to change for the better.
But in the end, do they?
Rin thinks they don't. Not like he does either. He's changed after his dream got crushed, wether if it's his morals, feelings, or his looks.
But in the end, he gives in to see the fireworks. (He just finds it pretty to see so many at once.)
But if there's one thing, it's that he still has a long time to wait for them. So he'll just go walking around till it's near- which was why he's at a cafe ordering a pistachio frappe and a cookie.
The cafe in itself is small, very few tables and such-some would even consider calling it cramped-which was why it doesn't have many customers, but it's one of the few ones that has good bakes that he specifically likes.
He's wearing a black turtleneck with a brown coat over it and a scarf(which was gifted from his dear significant other) around his neck, he hates colds and ends up overdressing.
Looking at his scarf does reminds him, he isn't with him this year. Sounds a lil sad but he was talking to him nonstop before he set out for the fireworks, so he's not too sad.
He sips his 'stachio frappe, savoring the taste. He remembers how his friends were wandering around during the time Sae left for Spain, to help him forget the absence of his.
It used to be 2 of them when they were six, then it expanded to 4 when they entered 5th grade-the year they were gonna turn 10. Then somewhere in middle school it turned 5, at the last it turned 6.
So six kids with unfortunate lifes meet each other over the years, giving each other comfort since their family couldn't. Well- one of theirs did have a good family, even though they're not biological.
He thinks that if he never met them, he'd probably kill himself. (He almost did, but bless his amazing friends.)
The one he met when he was six and they-she- was five, ray. The youngest of the group by a year.
Ray akihiro, with her veryyyyy dark brown hair with yellow underlays she dyes (with the help of her many brothers and less sisters) in the future, where she keeps half two buns half hair down. and her bright yellow eyes.
Ray was like a sister. a twin sister to be exact. The same goes for the fact that he knows her ginormous family tree of siblings (no parents, but they consider calling the eldest their dad/mom), and they think of rin as their little bro-more than Sae does, probably.- and he's accepted their tall-as-a-tree family.
And then they meet shun sumiyoshi and ikigai haruhaki.
Shun with his blonde, short hair that feels nice under your fingers, and brown eyes. He was uncanny, but that was the reason he was alone. Like those characters that were bright but had an interior motive. He wasnt around here, they could tell.
But that didn't bother them at all, they liked that uncanniness, to his surprise.
He had long and pointy ears-like an elf- but he hides them ("Just like an elf would!" Ray had voiced).
Then we have ikigai.
His hair a neutral brown with blonde streaks at random, and his Hazel-honey eyes through his rectangle glasses. Rin doesn't know, but he knows its somewhere between those words.
He was grumpy and only stayed with them-after failing to push them away(mostly rin). He gave small comments here and there, which made younger rin glow everytime.
You could tell he had something going on at home, so they tried everything to help him(which succeeded with the help of Ray's bros!).
They were kids and small, but they had dreams.
Then we get to nel. A nickname, but one she cherishes more than her birth name.
With her short brown hair, some mistake her a scrawny boy, which she doesn't appreciate.
She was quiet, nervous, but mostly tired. Rin could sympathise with that. She wasn't exactly jolly being there. But! A small group changes her.
Which reminds me, she has round glasses, so some mistake her as iki's sibling-despite one being tallest of the group while the other as the shortest.
And last but not least we have gyu. Another Nickname gained from where Ray got mixed up from ayumu-her real name- and gyaru.
She bleached her black hair and gave it pink ends. Her bright hair complimenting her tan skin. Always wearing accessories and keeping up with fashion media. She was the one who gave these boys and tomboys which were influenced by said boys a new sense of fashion.
They're all different from each other, from society even- but that didn't stop them.
He hadn't even realised how much he was thinking that he finished his food, payed for it, bought a tub of salted caramel ice-cream and sat on a bench not too close to the crowd but not too far to not see the fireworks.
Well, thinking did wonders.
Also before you ask, he gets cravings a lot so what's wrong with eating ice-cream in winter, huh??? Go cry about the fact you can't enjoy ice-cream just because it's cold. He won't hold back his cravings.
(Maybe he should've bought a popsicle instead...)
He looked at his phones to check the time.
11:59 pm.
He holds up his phone and started recording.

Every year, thousands die while more are born. A person has the time of their life while another is having the worst. A person gets the will to live again while another slowly loses it.

People always fights over each other, but on times like these-they unite. Rin can't understand other humans much. Some say he's too different, too weird, or something along those words. But celebrations are the only things that keep them from worrying who they are.

His group of kids have changed alot since they met, some dying their hair, some changing their personality, some trying out new things. So many things but still with each other

Roars of cheers are heard across the street, so loud that rin has to cover his ear. The other hears the sounds of fireworks, since he's recording. He never liked loud things, new years were just one of they few exceptions.
The view is dazzling.
His friends would've jumped up and down if they were here.
After they stopped, rin checked his messages.
