Chapter Text
A blinding flash of light. Shining like a star, enchanting as the concept of the universe. It rained down upon the agency.
Caught in the crossfire, was Osamu Dazai. Unable to react, he was hit by this mysterious spell. And so the tale began of this seemingly suicidal, playful and cunning detective being hit by a spell that seemed to bend the laws of this world...
"DAZAI-SAN?! AAAAA- HE'S GOING TO DIE AND IT'S MY FAULT!!!" Atsushi wailed out, dropping his paperwork and falling on his knees as he looked at Dazai's glowing body.
Kyouka was holding Atsushi's shirt, her instincts flaring up as her guts were screaming that this was a huge red flag. Yet, she stayed with Atsushi. Determined to protect him just incase anything happened.
"Calm down, Atsushi! We must think rationally!" Kunikida exclaimed, analysing Dazai's glowing body from afar in case anything dangerous/strange happened or if the spell hit again.
"Mmm... I see... Ranpo said, having put on his glasses as his smile faded. Emerald eyes gazing at the site. Dropping his snacks and getting up from his seat.
"Ranpo-san, how bad is it...?" Junichiro asked, his tone a mix of concern and bewilderment as he gazed apprehensive at Dazai's glowing body. His sister, Naomi, clung onto him like a lifeline.
Kenji simply tilted his head, wondering if something magical was happening to Dazai- no, some magical WAS happening! Would he turn into a giant carrot? Radish? Would he be yummy? Kenji's eyes were sparkling at this very thought.
Yosano, one of the more rational ones, had taken up a scalpel and a knife JUST in case anything dangerous happened. (She got a bad feeling from Ranpo actually being serious) Though, if Dazai was hurt, she can then make him in a near death state and heal him~ The thought of seeing him squirm in pain was so enticing- ahem.
The President, Fukuzawa, had came down after seeing the bright light. Seeing Ranpo's serious stance and Dazai's glowing body, his hand instinctively reached for his sword as he prepared for an attack of sorts...
All eyes were on Dazai as they waited to see what would happen. As the blinding light dimmed, they were met with the sight of Dazai. Yet, his coat was black and his right eye plus more parts of his body were bandaged... His smile was a lot more cunning, and his gaze calculating.
Within mere seconds, he had deduced hundreds of possibilities and reached for the knife on his belt. Though, when he realised there was none, he went into a seemingly casual stance. Though, it was disguised as that to hide the fact it was actually a fighting stance.
Everyone was already shocked, in a sense. Atsushi backed up, Kyouka ran forward to protect him, Kunikida clutched his pen and notebook tightly, Ranpo had a knowing gaze, Junichiro held Naomi closer, Kenji's eyes sparkled with anticipation, Yosano gripped her scalpel and knife tighter, and Fukuzawa prepared to unsheathe his blade. Though, Dazai's next words really made them pale...
"My, my... i'm taken into an unknown place? Is this a murder attempt? Well, thank you if it is!" He said, with not even a HINT of familiarity in his tone. As if he were talking to complete strangers, or just straight up mocking them...
Atsushi's breath hitched as he stepped forward, even though Kunikida tried to stop him. "D-Dazai-san, what are you saying...?? Why do you look different? Why- why are you speaking as if you don't know us...?" His brain was getting overloaded with the new turn of events, and he was unable to process the true danger of the situation.
Kunikida was about to say something, when Ranpo interrupted him. "Everyone, besides the President, stay back." The Agency had never heard him speak that firmly, but they obliged and moved back. Fukuzawa walked forward, his hand still on the sheathe of his sword as his eyes narrowed. "We don't mean any harm." He calmly said, hoping to diffuse the situation.
Dazai hummed in amusement, chuckling at the sheer absurdity of Fukuzawa's words. "You abduct me, and yet you say you don't mean any harm? Quite a contradiction, don't you think?~" His tone was straight up mocking at this point, with a hint of playfulness. The contrast between the present Dazai the Agency knew and this unfamiliar version of him was so large that it was terrifying. Not a single joke, not a cheeky smile.
Cunning, manipulative, and playful. Those were what was radiating off of him right now. Ranpo clenched his jaw and whispered into Atsushi's ear "Call Nakahara Chuuya" before walking towards Dazai.
"We truly don't mean any harm. We are from the future, and you are from the past. You must have realised that, yes?" Ranpo said, eyes narrowing as he pushed up his glasses. Dazai let out a hum of acknowledgement, gazing around. "Indeed, the wind speed and humidity feel quite different..." He walked over to a nearby calendar, and smirked once he saw it. "The date's different. Though, that's easy to modify. You could have even knocked me out and pretended we're in the future!" Dazai said, laughing as he did.
Atsushi had called Chuuya at this point. The other Agency members were standing back, all feeling an immense sense of dread... They all had a guess.
This was Dazai, when he was in the Port Mafia. The youngest executive of all time, The Demon Prodigy...
Fukuzawa's grip on his sword tightened. Though, as he opened his mouth to speak, Ranpo once again interrupted someone. "You hate dogs." Dazai's eyes slightly widened before he burst out laughing, almost borderline insane. "Well, well, I certainly don't tell anybody that. That means you're either spies, or telling the truth..." He hummed, thinking it over for a fraction of a second before continuing. "And yet, if you were a spy, I would have noticed. Even dumb Chuuya-kun would have, so I really seem to be in the future!~" He said, winking as his smirk widened.
Ranpo let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. Even if he deduced that Dazai would he smart enough to figure it out, he wasn't sure which was unusual. The rest of the Agency did so too, all equally relieved. Dazai, noticing their actions, let out a chuckle.
Just then, the door glowed red and swung open as a figure came flying in. "Ya'll called for pest control?!" A ginger-haired man, wearing a hat announced. Atsushi's eyes widened in relief and shock as he exclaimed "Thank you for coming, Nakahara-san!!" Without even registering what Chuuya had said. He was just so relieved.
The other members of the agency were too. They had known Chuuya and Dazai had a close bond, going way back, so Chuuya being here would already make the danger level of this situation go down. Though... the noise level would certainly spike-
"Ohhhh???~ Nakahara Chuuya-kun! You've came! Ehh?? You got even uglier! Oh- you grew taller?? Wow, wow, and yet I'm somehow still taller than you!" Dazai said, his eyes sparkling at first before morphing into a devious smirk. Chuuya clenched his jaw, eye twitching as he fired back. "At least I'm not a suicidal asshole!" Dazai simply laughed at that, and the two bickered for minutes on end.
Eventually, Chuuya had to repeat his words over and over. To which eventually confirmed the situation for Dazai, whom just smirked wider. He found the situation absurd, but was going to make full use of this to ask about his future self, if he had died, and tease these "Agency" members relentlessly.
Before the Agency took Dazai to his apartment, Chuuya asked one last question. "How old are you?" Dazai raised an eyebrow before replying "15." Chuuya slightly paled before sighing deeply. After the Agency had taken Dazai to his apartment, Chuuya announced that he'd be staying here. Saying something along the lines of "You can't handle that fucking devil without me." The Agency exchanged wary glances, but after Ranpo and Fukuzawa gave the green light, they eventually relented and agreed.
And so, a 15 year-old Dazai and Chuuya would be staying at the Agency today... thank god they had a spare room for Chuuya- otherwise they'd be making a Mafia Executive sleep on the living room couch. Which would certainly make THE great Nakahara Chuuya throw a tantrum and make Dazai laugh at him and then another argument- oh god.
