Vampires were never the only thing out there. There was only one human in that town and it hadn't been Avid. As they come back to pay their respects the notice the graves of two of the fallen have been disturbed. this causes them to investigate and enter Oakhurst only to find a surprise waiting for them.

Owens words tempted Renhardt more then all the others knew but Owen knew. He could tell by the deepening shadows under Renhardts eyes, the shaking hands and the way he muddled through the day like his mind was elsewhere.
Owen knew he just had to push him a little further. that it would be so easy never mind what Scott said about him denying it it was only a matter of time.

The compartment was stuffed full of multicolored wires of various widths.. Volt had one similar, but while Volt’s wires were organized into neat bundles, Eddie’s were in disarray, pulled in many different directions, and tightly knotted in some areas.
No wonder he was so tense all the time.
Volt ran a hand over Eddie’s wires, a compassionate look crossing his face. Eddie shivered, not only from the sensation of the intimate touch but also from how gently Volt looked at him. Eddie had never been fondled in such a way.
