Work Text:

Alhaitham and Kaveh spent a lot of those together, but there was one day that both of them would always remember.

Alhaitham was sick and lying in his bed while Kaveh took care of him.

"The fireworks are starting soon. Do you want me to put anything in front of the windows so you won't hear the noise?"

His junior shook his head "No it's alright. Besides this way, we can see the fireworks like you wanted."

Kaveh's brows furrowed. "I don't want to see them if the noise makes you uncomfortable, Haithoomi."

He let his fingers run through silver hair, his junior leaning into the touch.

"I'm fine with it, Senior, and I really wanted to watch the fireworks with you."

They sat on Alhaithams bed right next to the open window. Kaveh gently stroking Alhaithams cheek.

"If you say so, then we'll watch the fireworks together, Haithoomi." A smile spread across his face.

It was 5 minutes till midnight now, and the first few fireworks were already going off.

Neither of them noticed it at first, but as they continued to talk, they shifted closer to one another.

His senior looked so beautiful in the warm and bright light of the firework.

The way those carmine eyes lit up and showed him his reflection made his heart race.

Neither of them remember how it happened, but they were sitting face to face with one another their noses, almost touching hot breaths, mixing together and half lidded eyes.

Soft touches were exchanged between them, their breaths hitching any time they felt the others' soft skin on their own.

It was like a dance to see who first worked up the courage to finally close the distance between them.

The countdown began.

It was almost the new year as Kaveh finally found the confidence to cup Alhaitham face.

3...2...1...

Everything after that went quiet, and a pair of lips finally found each other as the world around them faded into the background.

Desperate kisses were exchanged, hands intertwining to anchor themselves and not float away.

The fireworks were still going when they pulled away. Carmine eyes searching for teal ones looking for more than just simple kisses.

"Alhaitham."

"Kaveh."

"I love you." His hands were brought up to gently stoke over his juniors' cheeks and his thumbs softly going in circles.

"I love you too." Alhaitham leaned back in kissing the older one once again, but this time, it was softer and more promising than the first kiss.

It felt like nothing could tear them apart in that moment.

They found each other and never wanted to let go.

Unfortunately luck wouldn't be on their side.

---------------

Years later, for the first time, they celebrated New years Eve together again.

It was the first year that Kaveh and Alhaitham had lived together and had been in each others lives again.

Kaveh once again had to take care of a sick Alhaitham. He had caught a bad fever just a few days prior and had stayed in bed since.

Looks like this year they won't get to watch the fireworks together.

Again.

Alhaithams' voice was raspy and weak as he spoke. "Kaveh."

"What is it, Haitham?"

"Do you still remember the last time when it was like this?"

Of course he did. How could he ever forget that night and what it did to him?

"I do."

"We kissed."

Kaveh wasn't prepared for that conversation and what it would bring with it.

"I know. We've changed a lot since then."

"We have, but there's something that hasn't changed."

Kaveh raised an eyebrow. "There is?"

Alhaitham nodded. "My feelings for you haven't changed since then."

"No, don't do this to me, please. You don't mean it. You're only saying it because you're sick and can't think clearly."

He turned away, and he couldn't look at the man that he once was so close with.

"I mean it, I still love you, Kaveh. I never stopped loving you."

"No, you don't."

"Look at me, Kaveh."

Carefully, he placed his hands on Kaveh's face and moved it closer to his.

His gaze softened while he watched as glassy tears formed in those oh so beautiful carmine eyes.

"Tell me you don't love me." He pleaded, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

"I love you more than anything."

Slowly, he guided Kaveh's face closer to his until their lips finally found each other again.

Tears started prickling down Kaveh's face. He couldn't do it.

"You're a cruel, cruel man, Alhaitham." He choked on a sob.

"I know, please forgive me, my love, and let me kiss your tears away." That was it took for his walls to start crumbling and let himself fall into the embrace of the man in front of him.

"I love you, Alhaitham. I love you so much it hurts."

"I know."

He kissed his lovers tears away and held him tightly in his arms.

"I promise you I'll make the pain go away. You won't be alone anymore by the next year."
