Chapter Text
Flowey waited at the barrier.
He had warned Asgore that a being was destroying everything in its path, killing every monster, and that soon it would come for him, and now was sitting and waiting for his demise.
He had tried to reset the timeline multiple times, hoping maybe he would have just enough determination to stop this murderer from killing him, but to no avail.
Sans was his last hope. Maybe the entity would finally get tired and give up if he tried hard enough.
Flowey sat there, feeling as the timeline was brought backwards over and over again. It never made him feel good. He had gotten used to it when he did it, but when someone else did it, when it was out of his control, it always made his stomach churn. That combined with the twisted feeling of fear was not a good combination to feel.
Finally, the resetting stopped. Flowey jolted with fear, his brain racing to find any way to stop his inevitable death. He took a deep breath, and stopped. The… thing, whatever it was, would not stop until it found him. The only thing he could do is pray for mercy, and even then it was unlikely it would work.
His life was about to come to an end. He waited… and waited… and waited.
His brow furrowed. It should have been here by now. What is it doing?
He began to gain some confidence back the longer it went without anyone coming into the corridor.
There was a noise.
He turned his head around with a look of pure terror. Here it was. This was it. It was over. But instead of seeing a person, he saw a portal. It glowed white, the middle a black void. He leaned backwards in defense, but his expression calmed down considerably.
He was hesitant to go closer to the diamond at first, but his curiosity grew stronger. After a minute or so, he couldn’t hold it back any more. He ducked into the ground, his stem disappearing.
Then two people burst out of it, being thrown to the side.
Flowey’s head was still visible, and he looked up. He pulled the rest of himself out of the ground again to look at the two strangers.
One flopped down on the floor, clearly unconscious. A lamp skidded against the floor, making it almost to the entrance. The other had presumably dropped both for dexterity. They barrel rolled, using the momentum from the shove to get them standing.
He looked just like a human, but with a cup for a head. Flowey’s face slowly turned to confusion as the cup rubbed his arm and looked straight at him.
He’s not a human, definitely not whatever was killing everyone. He could be a monster, but that’s impossible. All of the monsters were dead, and besides, his soul felt too… different for that.
That portal was very abnormal. Whatever they came from, it’s probably not the Underground. Maybe that’s why the ‘human’ never came for him. It got sucked into one of those portals.
Those two have information Flowey needed.
He glanced up at the cup. He was still staring at him with a tired expression, breathing hard. Flowey popped into the ground and came back up closer to the two. He noticed the portal closing shut as he began to talk.
”Howdy, I’m Flowey, Flowey the flower.” He looked at the cup. “You don’t seem to be from around here.”
The cup cleared his throat. “No, we’re not. Niko and I were caught in a fumble with our pals in this big city. I managed to grab them and get outa there.”
”Hm.” He said, taking this information in. “Boy, you must be confused. Welcome to the underground, cup.”
“It’s Cuphead.” He said, rather sternly.
”So, Cuphead, might I ask, where did you get your soul from, buddy?”
Cuphead flinched backwards in surprise. “My soul?” He gave Flowey a suspicious look. “I’ve always had it. Why do ya ask?”
”Well,” Flowey took a glance to the side, gathering a plan while his face is masked by an innocent look, “Let’s just say souls are an interesting subject.”
That made Cuphead look even more suspicious.
Flowey thought about what he just discovered.
So Cuphead does have a soul. Not a normal soul, but a soul none the less. If he can get that cup’s soul, he will have enough determination to reset and have everything go how he wants it to again.
“Say, how about we make a deal?”
Cuphead shivered at the word deal. Interesting.
”Let’s play a game. You can try to dodge my attacks, and if you win I’ll help you get out of here. If I win, I get your soul.”
Cuphead’s hand twitched.
“And don’t you try going and attacking me. You will regret it.”
Cuphead lifted up his hand to pull up his glove while he thought. He took a glance back at Niko and then looked up with an expression of ‘why does this keep happening?’
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and looked back down at Flowey. “It’s a Deal.”
Flowey giggled, clearly making Cuphead uncomfortable. “Wonderful.”
Cuphead looked confused as the battle commenced. His soul looked a little bit different than most, but it’s still confined to the borders of the fight.
That’s all Flowey needed.
Of course, it would be boring for him to just kill Cuphead, so he played around a bit more. He started with just a few small pellets and learned that he could turn into a puff of smoke to avoid projectiles. He kept that in mind. Flowey progressively made it harder and harder, and by the end Cuphead was having to dash left and right, panting wildly.
Finally Flowey’s had enough. He wrapped his vines around Cuphead.
“You idiot.” He smiled as Cuphead helplessly struggled and squirmed. “Did you really think that would work?”
Flowey giggled.
”There was never a chance of you winning. Now, I’m going to take your soul. Everything will be reset.” His voice was growing louder. “Don’t you understand? No one ever does.”
”In this world it’s KILL or BE KILLED!!!!!!”
He laughed and laughed and laughed as the pellets closed around him. He didn’t seem too scared, but who cares?! Flowey just wanted to be rid of this awful timeline.
There were footsteps.
They were growing louder.
Flowey turned his head just in time to see Niko ram into him.
He got uprooted and thrown to the side, his pellets disappearing and freeing Cuphead.
That stupid cat.
“How dare you.” He dug his roots back into the ground and commanded the vine to surface around them.
Niko helped Cuphead up and they both turned to see what Flowey was doing.
”You broke the rules.” He said with a laugh. “I said you would regret it if you attacked me.”
“Niko, run!” Cuphead yelled to them and they both fled.
Flowey’s laughs echoed across the barrier.
This was going to be fun.
