Kenny was sprawled on the living room floor, giggling as Ellie crawled over his back, and the woman sitting with them—young, barefoot, hair pulled back—was smiling like it was the most natural thing in the world.
She looked up when she noticed him.
No fear. No judgment.
Just quiet acknowledgment.
“Hey,” she said softly. “They missed you.”
