Work Text:

Satoru Gojo wasn’t any different from an average college student in their last year. Besides painstaking exams and midterms, and then also having to manage his part-time job as a Physics tutor on the days he didn’t have class, he was essentially fulfilling the typical expectations of what you would see in university. It was hard, and yet at the same time, he enjoyed it. To help others, while also balancing a decent social life and being successful in his education, proved that he didn’t have anything to be proud of.

It was something that Satoru succeeded in. He was able to create a steady scale of always keeping his grades to a decent average, while also having time for himself. It was nearing the end of his time at school, and he was finally accepted into a grad school program for Physics. Everything was falling into place; he had a small group of friends, but for him, social life wasn’t a top priority to him. His education is what mattered to him, and friends were just people who were acquaintances rather than people whom he focused on spending time with consistently. He worked diligently, his work ethic was flawless, and he was happy with that.

Dating wasn’t a big thing for him. And in reality, it wasn’t a concern for him. Sure, there was eye-candy around campus, a few girls or guys that he might find attractive, but it was more of a second thought rather than something that he turned to as soon as possible. Studies were more important, and something that he could see in his education, steadily. And to Satoru, he didn’t perceive himself as the most attractive. He was a little dorky looking, with round glasses and baggy clothes that didn’t necessarily fit his body type, considering how tall he was. His shoes were beat up too, and had a lot of scuff marks from when he would run to class or ride his scooter from the bus stop.

However, Satoru needed some downtime for himself as well. In all fairness, differential equations and studying the velocity between two objects were not what Satoru wanted to focus on 24/7. So when he wasn’t tutoring or in class, he waited for the weekend. The weekend was something that Satoru looked forward to, and it was something that always crept with anticipation. So when he finally saw on his phone and saw that tomorrow was Saturday, he smiled to himself, preparing himself mentally for the events that were about to unfold. Final exams drained the life out of him, and he could finally decompress– because tomorrow, Satoru was going to hold his annual post-final fraternity party.

There are a lot of misconceptions regarding fraternities, and Satoru is more than well-aware of this. Satoru was part of a STEM-based fraternity, and parties weren’t their top priority; rather, just gaining brotherhood through connecting through science and other topics while also working and getting potential opportunities for their careers later on. He was one of the lesser persons who were known throughout the fraternity because of how smart he was, but not necessarily his looks or anything besides that, and was more on the sidelines than anything. But what people didn’t know that he was an awesome party planner, and in fact, he was essentially the life of the party. When Satoru wasn’t wearing his baggy clothes that hadn’t been washed in 3 days and were reused, and not wearing those dorky glasses, he was wearing tank tops, low-rise sweats, and bought more beer for anyone to consume.

He was a fratboy, but no one necessarily acknowledged that because they never actually saw that. Weekdays were for Satoru to be effortless and prioritize good grades, but the weekends were where he could take his glasses off and actually release all of his stress and worries. Maybe Satoru was lying to people, and maybe he was just not being honest with others. But Satoru did feel internally embarrassed about himself not actually showing people the other side of them, and a large majority of the time, people didn’t really recognize him at all. And too many people were drunk to even name faces at the party anyway.

After buying an excessive amount of beer, vodka, and chasers, Satoru was more than excited to get started for the day and see his classmates for a final detox after all those god-forsaken labs and exams. Satoru was filthy rich as well, so he used one of the vacation homes that his parents had in the area for the party to be held at. He locked all the bedroom doors, though, because he didn’t wanna see anyone fucking in the rooms.

Arriving at the party, he brought the cans of beer, put them in big coolers, and the rest in the fridge. After doing the basics of setting up snacks and more, he was finally ready. The party was about to begin.

“Finally,” Satoru sighed loudly. “I can finally relax.” He went upstairs to the bathroom and changed into something a little more appropriate for his party, and then waited for more guests to pile in. The first two people to show up were his good friend Shoko, who was a pre-med student studying Biology, and her girlfriend Utahime, a Sociology major.

“Satoruuu…” Shoko trilled, waving her hand at him as she walked into the kitchen. Satoru turned around and put on a big smile. “Hey, Shoko, it’s good to see you. How were your finals?” Shoko shrugged, “It was good for the most part. It was the labs and clinicals that were the hardest– but hopefully a B+ in organic chemistry won’t get me rejected from med school.” Shoko wanted to go to medical school to become a surgeon, and her coursework was 10 times harder than what Satoru was doing in his mind. “I’m glad to hear that, mine went good too,” he replied, as he opened a can for both him and his friends. “And you, Utahime?”

“I don’t wanna talk about it…” Utahime sighed outloud. “My honors thesis is killing me. I think I got like 3 grey hairs in the first week.” Satoru chuckled a little at Utahime’s exaggeration, but he also knew that what she was doing required more patience and critical thinking than he could even comprehend.

“Well, don’t skimp out tonight, I got extra because I don’t know who’s gonna be here.” Satoru smiled, opening his fridge to preview all of the drinks he prepared tonight. Shoko whistled, “You sure you won’t yak from all of that?” Satoru shrugged, “I’ll survive.”

“Don’t overdo it Satoru,” Utahime said firmly. “I do not wanna clean up your vomit from the floor again.” The last party that Satoru held he overdid it with the Smirnoff and ended up on the bathroom floor, puking his guts out. Utahime was not happy cleaning his vomit, and quite frankly, after dealing with stressful finals she didn’t want to have to experience that again. (Fair enough.) Satoru just chuckled, taking into consideration of how Utahime felt internally. It was time for the fun to begin, and it was only a matter of time before the real party began.

The music was loud and jarring, the lights were dimmed, and you could barely hear your own words compared to those of other people because of how many people actually showed up. Among the hundreds of people who showed up, one of them was actually a classmate of Satoru in one of his upper-division Physics classes– Suguru Geto.

Suguru was the same age as Satoru, his major was Data Science with a minor in Physics instead. He wasn’t the brightest in the subject, hence why it was a minor to begin with. However, he enjoyed the challenge, and even if he didn’t have an A+ like some of his other peers, he still tried his best to understand the material and do well. Suguru was also the complete opposite of Satoru, and didn’t really indulge in party culture, unlike the rest of his friends. He only showed up because his other classmate, named Yu Haibara, convinced him to show up after Suguru faced a particularly harder semester compared to his last one. Suguru hesitated initially, but as he realized he was a senior who still hadn’t even lost his virginity, he figured, why not?

Needless to say, Suguru was not enjoying it as much as he thought he would. In fact, he was bored to say the least. While couples were making out on the wall and Yu was taking shots back to back in the kitchen with friends, Suguru was sitting on the couch on his phone. He was mindlessly scrolling through Reddit, and after some time, finally had enough and went to take a breather outside. He went to the patio outside, which surprisingly didn’t have a lot of people, but Suguru wasn’t the one to complain. He was a homebody after all.

Suguru leaned against the railing as he looked at all the people fraternizing on the ground floor. They were enjoying themselves, and as some people would say, “the night is young” based on the atmosphere. Suguru enjoyed being in his own little world, though, away from the busy and blaring music that was playing.

“You seem lonely. Aren’t you bored up here?”

Suguru flinched, turning around and seeing none other than Satoru Gojo himself. Suguru shrugged, “I think I’m okay here. Thanks, though.” Satorou sighed, just walking next to Suguru, and leaned against the railing as well. “Are you having fun?” Satorou asked. Suguru hummed, taking a sip of his cup. “I would say so. But I’m also not a party person, so I don’t know if I have a definitive opinion on the matter.” Satoru smiled softly as he turned to look at Suguru, who was in a haze amongst the marijuana and humid air. “Is this your first time? Like in terms of college parties,” Satorou inquired. Suguru just nodded and responded, “Yeah. I just came because my friend Yu Haibara wanted to go, and he convinced me to come as a way to release stress after final exams. I don’t know where he is, though. Probably taking shots somewhere down there.”

Satoru just stayed silent, examining the details of Suguru’s face. He stared at his thin eyebrows and long black hair. No amount of hair dye could compare to how jet black Suguru’s was. He dressed lazily for the party too, a loose black t-shirt and baggy dark blue jeans. His shoes, however, were pristine and clean with no scuffs compared to Satoru’s beat-up sneakers. He wore a silver chain with two keychains that had a single fingerprint in each of them. His ears were pierced, one on each side. Satoru felt plain compared to him.

“Your necklace,” Satoru broke the silence once more. “What is it?” Suguru turned, finally making eye contact with Satoru. “My sisters,” Suguru stated plainly. “It’s their fingerprints. They’re not dead or anything; it’s just because I took care of them, and they live really far away in the countryside. I got this made, so I always have a piece of them with me wherever I go.” Satoru felt his heart soften at the words; he never felt that type of love from his family if he was being honest. “That’s so sweet. How old are they?”

“They’re both 10. They’re twins. This one is Nanako, and this one is Mimiko.” Suguru replied, pointing out each fingerprint. Satoru whistled, “That’s a pretty large age gap.” Suguru hummed, “Yeah. We adopted them after finding them abandoned on a farm not too far from our village. My parents take care of them, though, but it was pretty hard to leave them if I’m being honest. Regardless, though, they call and text me all the time, and I always spoil them with good snacks and food from the city when I visit,” he replied, smiling more and more as he boasted about his two younger sisters.

“You’re a good older brother. I never had any siblings, so…” Satoru said, chuckling awkwardly towards the end of his sentence. “You know that I think about it, I feel like I’ve seen you around before. Crazy we haven’t crossed paths considering we are the same age. What is your name?”

“Suguru Geto. And yours?” Suguru answered blatantly. “It’s Satoru, Satoru Gojo.” Suguru turned, ears perking at the somewhat familiar name. He raised his brow, examining Satoru’s face. How did he look so familiar yet so different? He couldn’t seem to recognize Satoru, yet at the same time, his name sounded so familiar when he was at school. “You seem really familiar… I just can’t put my finger on it. Do you share a name with someone by chance?” Suguru then asked, still looking at Satoru from top to bottom.

Satoru began to look shy, feeling slightly awkward at the fact that he would now have to break the news to those he really was. “Uhm… no?” Satoru then said, ears turning hot. “You’re talking to him, Satoru Gojo, I mean.”

“You sure? Because I know I’ve seen a Satoru around, but he doesn’t look like you. You do share similar features, though.” Suguru responded back. Satoru sighed, giving up his fratboy act for once. “No, it is me. I’m Satoru Gojo, the one who is in your Data Science lower division class. I’m also a tutor for the Physics department at the university campus.” Suguru stayed silent, before finally eyes wide at the realization. There was no way that this bulked-up fratboy with messy hair and half drunk on soju was Satoru Gojo, the nerd that kept to himself on campus. “There is no fucking way. That’s you?” Suguru blurted out.

Satoru felt his heart beat faster at the realization from Suguru. “Yes, in the flesh…” he replied. “I know, I don’t look like ‘typical’ me. But, every once in a while, when I can unwind, I like to throw parties. I know it’s the least expected, considering I basically look like a loser on campus.”

Suguru didn’t really know what to say if he was being honest. He had to admit, though, when examining Satoru from top to bottom, he looked attractive in both attires whether it was his dorky tutoring outfit or his outfit that he is wearing right now. “I mean, you make it work.” Suguru just said plainly. “I’m sorry?” Satoru replied, confused at the short statement. “I mean that you make both looks work. Being a nerd and then also being some fratboy who has probably had way too many beers.” Satoru had to admit he was right; he did think that he didn’t necessarily always look the way he did at parties versus now. “So… you’re the one who’s held those other parties in the past, too?” Suguru inquired, leading to a prompt nod from Satoru. “Yep, that's me…” he said sheepishly in response. “I know it’s like a culture shock, almost. Like that one scene from Horimiya, and then Hori screams when she encounters Miyamura for the first time outside of school.”

“You look good, though.” Suguru then smiled. “I have to admit, I am very surprised. Who knew a Physics major would throw a major rager in plain sight?” Satoru smiled at the flattery from Suguru. “Hey, I don’t think I look all that different… I just lost the glasses was all.” Suguru raised a brow again, then made an obvious up-and-down glance at Satoru. “You serious? You have a whole ass sleeper build. Do you go to the gym often?” Satoru shrugged, thinking mentally before responding, “More or less. I usually go a few times a week in the morning if I can before classes.”

“I see. You know if girls saw you like this and found out who you really were, I think they’d lose their shit.” Suguru laughed. “Fancy anyone on campus?” Satoru shook his head. “Nah, girls aren’t really my thing. I dated my friend Utahime once, but we both ended up just staying friends, and now she’s dating my good friend Shoko. It’s a much better dynamic in my opinion.” Suguru just hummed in response before turning and looking out of the balcony again. Satoru reached into his pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. “Want a smoke?”

Suguru nodded, taking one from Satoru’s pack. “Here,” Satoru replied, lighting the tip of his before leaning in close, giving some of the flame from his to the end of Suguru’s. Both exhaled, the tobacco filling the air. It was colder now, but with the hot smoke filling their bodies, and a buzz kicking in, suddenly it felt much warmer than before. “You know,” Suguru began. “You’re not all that bad. I think we should talk more often.”

“I’m not all that bad?” Satoru then laughed. “No offense taken, don’t trip. But sure, I’d like to talk to you more, too,” taking up Suguru’s offer. “I have class like every other day, but I’m sure we can find an overlap somehow. I do live off campus, though.” Suguru nodded, “No worries. Let’s get coffee sometime then. I’m sure I could actually use your help since I’m a Physics minor too.”

“No shit,” Satoru laughed. “Yeah, I can help you, but it’ll cost you,” Fair enough, Suguru thought, considering that was his job after all. “You got it. But, do you think you can make an exception for me?” Satoru quirked his eyebrow at the last word, “Exception how…?” Suguru sighed, leaning in closely before taking the cigarette out of Satoru’s mouth. “I want a private session in my dorm. I have a single. And… I’d like to do something else after, if you’d let me.” Satoru felt his cheeks go hot at the statement. “...A single, you say? I mean, sure. I don’t see why not. However, I’m not really understanding the whole ‘something else’ statement. Could you elaborate?”

“Girls aren’t really your thing, right?” Suguru asked once more. Satoru nodded. “Well, are boys your thing?” Satoru gulped. He wasn’t very open about his sexuality to others, mainly because he wasn’t fully comfortable with telling others yet. Shoko and Utahime knew, and he wouldn’t just randomly tell a stranger– but why was he so compelled to tell Suguru how he felt? “I mean…” Satoru trailed off slightly.

“Yeah, they are.” Satoru finally exhaled. “And you?” Suguru nodded before walking closer to Satoru. Their noses were nearly touching, and Satoru’s heart rate was increasing by the minute. “I’m in luck. I get a cute tutor and a date.” Suguru just said, running his thumb on Satoru’s bottom lip. “You okay with this?” he asked, noticing how Satoru’s body was tensing up. He felt his face turn hot, his body unable to react with his inner emotions. All Satoru could do was nod, almost entranced by the way Suguru spoke to him. His voice was low, but smooth. Satoru’s voice was higher-pitched and would crack.

“Mhm…” was all Satoru could mumble out. Suguru slowly backed away before putting out his cigarette on the railing. “Cute,” Suguru remarked. “Give me your phone, I’ll text you later, yeah?” Satoru didn’t hesitate, instantly handing his phone to Suguru and letting him do god knows what.

“There,” Suguru spoke, handing the phone back. “This party was fun, by the way.” Satoru just smiled, “I’m glad to hear that.” Suguru checked his watch, “It’s late… I think I’m gonna go check on my friend now. But I enjoyed this, Satoru.” Silence filled the air for a minute before Satoru nodded. “See you later then…” Suguru nodded, taking out his phone before getting ready to walk back. “See you, Satoru.” Suguru winked. Satoru watched Suguru walk out, before feeling his phone vibrate three times in his pocket. He pulled it out, seeing two notifications on the screen.

SHOKO
u good?

SHOKO

oh ur gay Asf

SHOKO

tell me his name later btw

SUGURU

call me later, satoru ;)

“I don’t get it,” Suguru sighed, frustratedly. “Why do kinematic equations even exist?” Satoru just chuckled slightly before taking his pencil from behind his ear. “Because without it Physics wouldn’t exist dummy. Here, give it to me.” Suguru slid his notebook over to Satoru. Suguru watched as Satoru began writing things down, eyes scanning the equation and looking at Suguru’s previous work on the side. “I see where you went wrong, let me explain…”

After solving Suguru’s homework while also dealing with Suguru constantly moping and whining about how much he hated Physics and not understanding why he even chose to minor in Physics, the two of them sat on Satoru’s couch watching a movie. Suguru’s eyes began to droop, feeling tired from all the work they had done earlier. He leaned his head on Satoru’s shoulder as he sighed and closed his eyes. He intended to sleep for only a few minutes, but a few minutes turned into a few hours. It wasn’t until the evening that Suguru woke up, this time in Satoru’s bed. Did Suguru carry him into his bedroom while he was asleep? He couldn’t remember. Suguru was so tired from midterms that his brain was basically fried at this point.

Suguru checked his phone, 7:31. He overslept; he wanted to study a little more before his exam tomorrow. “Shit,” Suguru mumbled. “Overslept…” he sighed, placing his phone down before just lying on the bed and stretching out his body. Suguru looked around Satoru’s room. He saw the photobooth photos they took on their first date, the flowers that were slowly drying out that he had given Satoru just last week. There was also the t-shirt that he left on Satoru’s desk last week when he slept over. Little details that represented Suguru’s presence.

Suguru didn’t realize how much time had passed since they first met. So many memories, in such little time. It felt like he had just met him yesterday. Suguru smiled slightly at the thought of their last date just a few days ago, when they went to a new cafe. He liked Satoru, and Satoru did too. When they were in each other's presence, it was like time stopped, and they were the only two people in the world in that moment.

“Sleep well?” A familiar voice rang. Suguru looked up, seeing Satoru with two hot mugs in his hand. Satoru was in a more casual attire now; he was in sweatpants but had a big hoodie and his glasses that he would wear at school. In Suguru’s opinion, this was Satoru’s best look. “Yeah, but I overslept way more than I anticipated. I’ll still try to cram in some more studying before my exam tomorrow.” Satoru laughed softly and made the statement, setting his mug down on his nightstand and handing the other to Suguru. “You never know how to take a break, do you?” Suguru shook his head, “Yeah, yeah. I’m just trying to pass with a B+, okay?”

Satoru just giggled. He stared at Suguru, admiring the little details on his face. Suguru turned, taking a sip of his drink before setting it down next to Satoru’s. “Did it taste good?” Satoru asked, receiving a prompt nod from Suguru. “Perfect,” Suguru replied, as he caressed Satoru’s face. “Satoru…” Suguru said with a faint whisper. “Look at me.” Satoru stared deeply, pupils dilating slightly as he met the gaze of Suguru.

“Do you feel the same way still?” Suguru asked. Satoru nodded heavily. “Do you want to be more than this?” Satoru stayed silent before nodding, “Yes, please…” he said with a cracked whisper. “I’ve been waiting for you to ask… I just get so fuzzy, and I don’t even know what to say sometimes when you approach me like this. I want to have this, I want more, and I want you, Suguru. Just you…” Suguru smiled at the slight ramble that came out of Satoru. “So, can I have you, more than what we are now?” Satoru nodded, his cheeks red and his heart beating so loud that it was clouding his hearing.

“Can I kiss you?” Satoru suddenly blurted. Suguru hummed before they came in close. Satoru hesitated at first, unsure of how to approach the action. Suguru guided him, pulling him close and caressing his face. Satoru slowly placed his lips on Suguru, before Suguru embraced himself even closer. The kiss was indulgent, and the more they kissed, the more they wanted to taste more of each other. Satoru eventually let go, lips tender and wet from the strings of saliva from each other’s mouths.

“That was my first kiss, actually,” Satoru admitted. “Really? You didn’t kiss Shoko?” Suguru said in disbelief. “Nah… every time I tried, I just couldn’t. It’s obvious enough why, though, now.” Suguru smiled before pulling Satoru in for another kiss, this time it being much more natural but also softer than earlier. “I’m honored then,” was all Suguru said, as he just stared at Satoru with yearning eyes.

And they may have done a bit more than kissing, but that’s for another time.
